Hi , any shade of Olive Green is correct as the batches of paint varied in war time , also Olive Drab, dark red/brown, and matt Black , you can also use white over olive green for winter cammo . cheers ian

Also try this site. There are some different schemes on there as well. For my own KV-1, I am going to use Dark Green, model master as the base. Then drak brown with grey.

Russian 4BO Protective Green is very close to FS 34102, a USAF cammo color available in most hobby paint lines. You can add a drop or two of other primary colors for variation (there was plenty of variation in wartime factories). Up to you if you want to lighten it for scale effect.

If you go to Global Security, you can find a fair amount of information and pictures on various units and weapons from the Soviet Union/Russia. I haven't looked at the KV-1, but all the pictures of the T-34s I've seen (both the -76 and the -85) are green, with the possibility of the occasional snow camouflage.

Hope this helps!

Gerald hit the nail on the head. 4BO was a dark green - try to stay away from Medium greens unless you filter or wash it.

For Russian armor I start off with Tamiya XF-5 Flat Green. Wash with black and burnt umber oils, and drybrush with yellow ochre oils.

MM Dark Green looks best to me.

Tnx to all!

Today I painted T-34 with "Testors" 1713, KV-1 painted with "Precision" m61 (rlm62)
Tomorrow I will airbrush T-34 with gloss cote.
For KV-1 I have to wait "Precision " paint as i see minimum one weak to dry

What ever will be, will be,

Tripko,
these are cleaned tanks ready for Stalin inspection, easier way for me to make fast build.
