It is a welcome addition, as there are ample uses for the cargo version, but I still don't get the name, Gepanzerte, as nothing armoured is shown anywhere.

Anyway, I do hope the tracks aren't as loose as they are on the Nuremberg shots, grin.

But it sure is a winner, no doubt about that!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I expected to see a Sd.Kfz. 7 with an armoured cab. Anyway, I am sure this will be a popular subject and that one of the future versions with be "Gepanzerte"

Here's how it appeared on the poster on Trumpeter's stand:

Trumpy's initial release was the "early" version and they should simply say "late version" now. But I suspect they're worried kitmakers will say "I don't need both versions."

They don't know how truly sick and distorted we are....

I'm buying one! I have the early version....I'm getting the late version! I can't wait until this one comes out! Very cool.

It's been so long since I looked at the old Tamiya kit with the quad flak on the back and I don't remember technical differences but it seems to me this kit could easily be made to look like the none armoured cab quad gun version. After all you have the flatbed and the drop sides, okay they would need to be a frame with mesh infills not wood, and maybe the bed is treadplate but it's not a step too far is it ?

So Jim, am I getting warm on the next release after this one ?.....

Alan, I don't know Trumpeter's plans, but once you have the chassis, the other versions fall into place pretty naturally. The Wehrmacht armored the cab and put a wedge-shaped plate to protect the radiator from aircraft MGs, but either the 37mm or the 20mm quad would be a no-brainer in my estimation.

But Trumpeter has been exhaustive in their KV-1 series, so I am pleased to see them offering this hauling version of the #1 prime mover.

The final versions with these wooden sides were also used for the 7/1 and 7/2 versions, so not needing the mesh sides.

However, to do the test vehicle used with the 5cm FlaK 41, you do need to use the mesh sides, plus scratchbuild the extenders.

And the SdKfz 7/6 FlaK messtrup wagen should also be rather simple, based on the already realeased 7.

Which makes me wonder, did the SdKfz 7/4 and 7/5 exist?

Dragon USA is taking cash for pre-orders on it. I don't know if we'll get a review copy here at Armorama, but I would love to compare the two kits.
