Osprey Publishing send us news of a future release in their popular New Vanguard Series of reference books.

"Special Ops Patrol Vehicles: Afghanistan and Iraq" is New Vanguard 179 and is authored by Leigh Neville with illustrations by Richard Chasemore. 48 pages of background and photos and colour profiles, the book is sure to be a welcome resource for modern armour fans.

This could be a very interesting release indeed... I definitely look forward to it.

I saw this on the Osprey website, but this part of the description concerned me:




I'm pretty sure they're talking about the Armored Ground Mobility System vehicles, which are Pandur variants, not LAV-III/Stryker variants (completely different vehicle families). Seemed like a potentially glaring attention to detail issue right out of the gate.

I should've waited for more information. I contacted the author, and apparently 2/75th Rangers borrowed a number of Stryker family vehicles for their deployment to Afghanistan in 2005 (the first deployment of the vehicle family there). They're still apparently on extended loan to the unit. This being cleared up, I can only imagine that the rest of the book is as well researched.

sounds like an interesting addition to modern wheeled vehicle reference material.
