Thanks to a suggestion by Bob Davis this morning, I'm going to revise the concept of the campaign I proposed from the final year of the war to encompass the time period from 7 December 1941 through the what if of Olympic/Cornet. This also includes the Soviets in Manchuria. You can do either Allied or Japanese, figures, dioramas, AFV, artillery, softskins 1/144 and larger. Participants will be encouraged to research their builds, I have a large amount of material accumulated over the years dealing with the Marines' landings throughout the war which I will be glad to share if needed. I'd like to propose a start date of 19 February 2015 to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the landings on Iwo Jima with a conclusion date of 2 September 2015 to coincide with the Surrender in Tokyo Bay. What do you think?

I like it. The Pacific Theater is the focus of most of my WWII interest.

I've gotten kits on ships and aircraft for that theater but nothing for armor. Even though armor wasn't widely used in that theater of operations, it was there and there's plenty of subjects to choose from.

Michael, do you think that there would be any interest from the ship builders in this campaign as well, given the heavy involvement of the naval forces in the Pacific? Let's face it, without sea lift and Navy support the amphibious operations wouldn't have happened.

If you expand this to be a Pacific in General Campaign, I think you could draw some shipbuilders in. Certainly wouldn't hurt to extend an invite out in the MSW campaign forums.

Just to let you know, the current active ship focused campaigns that might compete with it until they are done are a Battle of Leyte Gulf build and a Battleship build.

Leyte runs until next October (2015) and the Battleship ends in May.

But both are more focused to a specific battle and and ship type so a general Pacific campaign could still have a draw.

Revell just released a LSM kit which would be perfect to combine both ship and armor subject -oooh, idea for me!!!

O.K. John. I'm in. I'll be doing a vignett with at least 4 Marines in it, maybe a part of a Japanese air craft in it. Oh the wheels are spinning full tilt. And yes, lets drag in the navy, plane and armour guys in too!. This could be the start of a great campaign because it allows you to cover anything or anypart of the Pacific war.

Err, Um, yeah, You guys are planning on having air cover for this campaign aren't you? I know our scheduling is a bit less elastic than your's but it would work well across interests.

Yeah, a little CAS would be nice. I think we should get a good cross section of subjects, cover all the bases.

I'm in. I've always thought the PTO needed some attention. I'm sure I have something in the depths to build.

Welcome guys. The beauty of the theme is how wide open it is, and I agree, the PTO doesn't get much love. Let's change that. I think we're actually nearing the threshold of ten, woohoo!

OK, I've got an F6F, a Corsair or two, a TBM, a P-39Q,and a P-40N, a couple of PBY's, a PB4Y-1 and -2. Might also be a Fletcher destroyer somewhere, a PT boat, the Saratoga, and a fleet boat.

I should be able to scrounge something......

Seeing as how I am on an OD quest, I may change my entry to a Stuart or Sherman.

I hope this one doesn't die on the vine. Is there enough interest and people to get this to the campaign commity yet?

Is there a post in the Aeroscale forums for this?

PTO has little armor action compared to the Western theaters so to gather enough interest we'd want to include all land, sea and air subjects.

Hey John, just let the modelers on Historic Forma know about the hopeful campaign. Figure the more the merrier.

Actually have to admit not knowing enough of the PTO, which is shameful considering Australia is there. Although after the Kokoda campaign, Milne Bay battles Australian troops got sidelined. I watched Band of Brothers followed by the Pacific series over the past two weeks and that bought home how much I knew about Europe and so little about the Pacific.

Guys, my apologies for not keeping the ball in motion on this. The 1:1 world really conspired against me this week -- without going into too much detail let's just say it's been a long expensive week here in chez Wypyszinski, finally getting to come up for air. So, I will get things pulled together to submit the campaign. I'll get something up on Aeroscale in a few. I think so far as subjects we should go with the following criteria: if it served in the Pacific/Asia from 1941 to 1945 it's good to go; previously started kits are okay if they are going to be part of a diorama; what-if's are okay if they are depicted as participating in Operations Olympic/Cornet. Scales will go from 1/700 and larger to accommodate our naval support. Does anybody else have any thoughts on ground rules, changes or additions?

Hey John, no need to apologize.Life can kick butt when it wants too and priorities do come first. Can't think of any thng new for rules or on the subjects.

And just to be clear--since this is going up on Aeroscale--ANYthing is cool, right? Planes, AFVs, ships, little people, and so forth....
