I love all the conspiracies and cryptic remarks going on between the modelling companies in China... It could make a great soap opera

Ho hum, another "like" thing to clog up the web. Couldn't they just have a home site where you could READ in the comfort of your PC chair, what's upcoming...? Why does EVERYTHING have to end up on frikkin "social media"..??!! What a bore.

Its kinda nice having all the modeling companies on FB, makes it very easy to keep up on everyone.

Wow, so many sceptical comments over a FB page? I thought this was a good thing to have another option to stay informed.

I guess its up to each and every modeller to decide whether they want to check it out or not, or follow the so called "soap operas" on FB, here on Armorama or anywhere else.

I think it's more of an indictment of social media rather than an attack on Takom.I know Facebook has its advocates (the wife is one of em!) but personally I just steer well clear.News from modelling companies i pick up from the official webpage or the forums (though that can be a minefield in itself)
Maybe I'm of the wrong generation but signing up to these networks isn't high on my list of priorities and if these sites go dormant,well,then everybody starts drawing their own conclusions.....
So,if you like em,stick with em,if you don't then concentrate on something else,either way,like Sven stated so eloquently in another thread,DO SOME MODELLING

I agree with you, and I personally try to use FB and (very few) forums in a controlled way myself. Used responsibly, they can be valuable tools for sharing useful information and staying in touch, but can also be riddled with pointless stuff, soap operatics, drama etc.

I also agree with you regarding Hisham's news contributions to this site, excellent stuff. He often finds the valuable information on FB as well :-)

I find ALL the info FB.. and most of the time by chance.. and I only post the stuff that I find exciting

FB is just a tool, and like Sven says, it depends on how you use it.. and it's been very helpful to me, in modelling and other stuff.. but there will always be people against it.. just like there were people against the internet itself because it brings things like porn into our houses.. but, now, almost no one can live without the internet... and again, it's all in what you use it for... And for the modelling companies, it is a tool that helps them reach a larger number of people.. with a lot less maintenance.. so it just makes business sense to have a page.

By the way, FB can't get any personal info about me that I don't give them myself... As for worms and other software that can get into your system and get personal info from your PC, well that can happen as soon as you have an internet connection and start accessing various sites

Again.. like Sven said and like I said about everything.. if you like it.. use it, if you don't.. don't.. simple

got to love this place; news story about a model company turns pretty much instantly into a protracted indictment of social media.....

yeah,a model company that has gone onto said social media......it's all still connected (though future comments still could go off into the realms of fantasy.....or perhaps they all ready have)

I don't have a Facebook account and probably never will so these companies are missing out on reaching to this particular modeller,so when the missus is on her account sometimes she may 'like' certain things (she has a newsfeed from Bovington on her timeline,who knows how that got there....)

But then,if Hisham gets all his news via his controlled use of FB then posts on here,where I get to see it without the need to view MEMEs of cats or the latest on Kim'n'Kanye then maybe alls good in Takom's media campaign,I just miss out on the babble....

Chris,maybe you are the best placed to actually advance the case for going onto sites like Facebook or Twitter,does ITA have a major profile in such areas (with the 'decline' in print media) or do the forums bring in the business? Everybody doesn't have to like everything (as demonstrated excellently on international forums) but change is not always a bad thing

Facebook is a far better medium for advertising the business and reaching people than forums now. Sorry, but thats how it is. I get far more business and exposure on there

However, Forums are still a valuable place to reach people

I don't recall that anyone said anywhere that this meant companies on FB would no longer advertise in any other way?

I tend to find all my news on Facebook for modelling. Facebook allows companies to get news out faster then having to wait for the next print issue to be printed and circulated, or other sources processing it. I even follow print magazines, and they tend to post it quick enough on their Facebook page.

Unfortunately, social media is here to stay, and it is a quick and inexpensive method of getting information out.

I totally agree with that.. One is not meant to take the place of the other.. just one additional internet tool.. "if you wish to use it"

I would say that it is a matter of easiness as well... anyone at the company can create a facebook account and add news, on the other hand maintaining a website requires specialized staff, plus changes are usually slower and hard to code.

Moreover, whenever there is an update you are informed right away, no need to check a site every x days.

So, while I am not a FB fan, I understand that there is a big audience there, and quite easy to reach.

Chris,I'm not trying to make any kind of argument or insist that anyone stick rigidly to one form of media or another-basic economics dictate that you reach as many people as possible by any available means.I think the written word has a nasty way of being misinterpreted with or without the prolific use of emoticons or not.My original post was a dig at the sole reliance on one form of media and the subsequent misinterpretation of what was( or wasn't ) going on as a result of a lack of updates......

So,to clarify,use whatever means are at your disposal,Takom on FB is a good thing and I look forward to any news on new releases from whatever manufacturer,however it gets out there

And Chris,thanks for replying,it's the hard work and dedication of guys like you in this hobby that make it more fun to go to the shows,meet the people in your hobby,buy their stuff and get their point of view so its more understandable for us punters.The obvious passion you have (churchill conversions and updates anyone?) and putting your work out there for others are greatly appreciated.
