Takom has come clean on the images that they released a couple of weeks ago reference the Chieftain. So what is the big surprise as we all could see it was a Chieftain well the answer is that it is a Chieftain Mk? Read the answer inside.

Thanks for the heads up Darren.
Its not often I buy a target, but the Chieftain is a very welcome release, and a definite must have.

Sweet!! I had a feeling Takom would take the "x in 1" approach. Time to make som shelf space for 3 kits :-)

Darren and Takom thank you, I'm not much of a tracked target guy but for the Chieftain I'll make room for more than one.

Fantastic news, Berlin Brigade Chieftain or Range Target rusty wreck? here's hoping for some other variants as well ... ARV or ARRV and a AVLB.

What amazing news. Somebody said in one of the other threads that Takom might do a '3 in 1'- they called it right!

I find it truly inconsiderate of Takom (and Meng, and Trumpeter) to continually remove reasons for me to complain. Though I can complain that I just bought the Tamiya Chieftain 2 months ago to go with my AA Mk.5 conversion. Sigh, you all are welcome. . .

Castoff (Terry Beal) has a drivers compartment available already and rumor had it (cos he has gone quiet) that he was working on some turret detail for the future.

Image 2027 is missing the MRS shroud at the end of the barrel but no doubt it will be in the kit (I hope) because the light source projector box is present on the turret next to the gunners sight (no 50. Cal. needed in that case)...

Great News

Although are you sure it's a "3 in 1" ?, as each image shows a possible kit number in the lower left corner.

According to what they wrote on their FB page, they are in fact 3 different kits that will be released at the same time and not one 3-in-1 kit

Great news, by the way

"No excuses now. Prepare your tools, paints and brushes and be ready not for 1 but for 3 different Chieftain Kits that will be released at the same time. 3 different versions, 3 different kits, but many painting alternatives. Ask to your local hobby shop to book yours. Coming soon."

hi everyone
it is good news , hope they fix the finer details, most obvious is the bolt slots in the side plates these were not there . Want to see the engine deck to see if they upgraded the decks properly for a stillbrew version as there is a slot you lift out to lift the engine decks. also the different types of mesh as well . Mk5 did not have mesh on engine/gear box decks till later on

Any mistakes on detailing are down to me as I have been crawling all over the real thing for Takom for months now. The Early Mk 5 did not have an MRS so no shroud, good call on the light box though I admit I missed that when checking, although of course later Mk5's onwards did have the MRS. The side armour plates do have the bolt slots. Yes the Engine decks are correct and they know the mesh wasn't fitted to Early Mk 5's. Meng wont be doing one I was supposed to be helping them with it starting 2 years ago but they lost interest when most of their designers went to Takom.

Hi Ossie

I've definitely seen Chieftains with slots in the side skirts. I recall that they were rebuilds though, so my supposition is that the early examples had a system like Cent and the same plates were later reworked when the brackets above the trackguards were adopted. I don't recall seeing them on the final production versions I examined but even if all Takom's kits have them, it's a simple job to fill them and I'd rather do that than try scratchbuilding another shroud for the dozer gear inboard of the right side bins, which does appear on the CAD image. A rightangle-free zone as I recollect....

Hope the wading rail is less solid than Tamiya's but I can see the brass channel coming out again if not.

Hi Guys,

As I know more than nothing about Cheiftain's, are any of these suitable for doing an Iranian one from the Iran - Irag war??

Cheers Mike

Mike, Iranian Chieftains were Mk5P (P for Persian). I don't believe there was much external differences between a Mk5 and a Mk5P. Hopefully an expert will chime in on this. I can't wait for this to hit the shelves!

Quoted Text

I'm kinda slow I guess...are they saying this will be a 3-in-1 kit? Or will there be 3 separate kits?

From what Hisham said, three kits

I guess I will build that old Tamiya kit as a Mk3 now, huh? Since I just got a set of Fruil tracks about 2 weeks ago for it. Whatever to do with that 2nd Challengar I kit I bought just for the barrel and CC's cupola now???

Please, please PLEASE cost less than $90 each!!! LOL
