The only functional Tiger 1 in the World today is Tiger 131. Tiger 131 was captured in Tunisia after its turret ring was jammed by fire from three Churchill tanks. The crew of the Tiger rather than destroying it did a runner leaving this iconic tank as a very well-known prize today that still shows the damage inflicted in North Africa. David Byrden is given credit for this release and so I am very hopeful of a great model.

Seems to be a very nice kit and having our very own David Byrden involved will probably guarantee the kit will be accurate

I hate the DS tracks (I hate the plastic link ones too) and love aftermarket friulmodel ones.

Does this release use the new parts from the recent Wittman boxing?

Another similar question for David, or asking the same question another way, is how much different this kit is from the new Wittman kit. I just got the Wittman one; would I be gaining anything by getting the new 131 kit in addition, besides the obvious answer of having just another Tiger model?

Regarding tracks, the AFV Club early Tiger tracks are nice and are movable.

I expect it will be the exact same as the Wittman kit except for the parts specific to the AK tigers similar to most of Dragon's WW2 releases since 2010.

This kit does use the new high-quality parts from the recent "Wittman" kit.
It also adds a few new-tooled parts. Some of them are made necessary by the differences between the tanks; for example, it has a new hull roof and engine hatch because of the different layouts of "S04" and "131".
But it also has new Feifel drums, not the old ones from the "DAK" kit of a decade ago; these ones use PE for a better result. And the internal turret "ring" now has the prominent locking screws that you would see through the open hatch.

So, to answer the question "is this more/different to the Wittman kit", I think it depends on how familiar you are with the Tiger. If you have never built a Tiger before, this is practically the same kit (but offers you more variety with paint and decals). If you know the Tiger quite well, this kit fills a niche that you must have been waiting for.

I'm assuming the white tiger is a depiction of the 502nd or 503rd s.pz.abt in Russia in 42-43, but that's just a wild guess

The decal options are;

Tiger "121", s.Pz.Abt.505, Ukraine, January 1944.
Tiger "01", s.Pz.Abt.502, Lake Ladoga, March 1943.

The kit doesn't say this, but it's possible to paint the tank differently using the same decals. The 502 Tiger was completely white at one time, and you can weather it all the way down to grey as you please.



The 505 Tiger was completely in base colour with only the "charging knight" logo.

These tracks are only 2 pieces per link, unlike the many pieces per link of some of the Bronco tracks. If you are picky, you may want to sand the 2 very shallow mold ejector dimples on each large part, but I don't think that's critical. Some (maybe 30%) of the smaller of the two parts (the part with the track guide horns) have a bit of flash that is easily cleaned up. You glue them together and are not fiddley at all; they are very solid when done, and articulate really well. You do need to be careful where you put the glue and how much you use, but I found this was not difficult to address. I have not painted my completed set yet, but expect absolutely no problems at all. You can use any paint as these tracks are (appear to be) styrene. Highly recommended. Hope this helps!

Nice term for crap , sure wish they would bring back the Magic Tracks or at least offer them a separate item.
