Hey,

I was looking at my stash and like most of you probably, I have the one or other kit in-there that keeps being pushed back in the shelf just because of its high part count.

Thinking it might ease things a bit if you can share your highs and lows during the build, I am going to propose a campaign for building kits that have say 500+ parts (with certain limitations, see rules below).

Here are some preliminary rules:

1. Part count of 500 or more
- decals are not counted
- parts for different variants not part of the build are not counted
2. Any land or hybrid vehicle, any scale, any era
3. Partially started kits ARE allowed provided they are not more then 50% finished
4. Posting your builds in other campaigns IS allowed (I never understood why this should not be allowed in the first place)
5. You must upload an image of the kit before starting as an evidence of its completeness state along with evidence of the date the image was taken on (newspaper of the day, website with the current date, a piece of paper with the date on it, etc)
6. At least two WIP photos need to be uploaded along with the finished piece appearing in the campaign gallery

That's it for the beginning. Let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Cristian

That's pretty wide-open, Christan! A GOOD ooportunity, I think, to get out one of those over-full super-kits!

I would be pretty inclined to jojn up if this flies - I have a very slightly started Dragon Dicker Max kit that could easily fill the big parts-count bill (1015 or so of those little things in the stock box! ) - and I have a bunch of extra stuff to go onto that kit... (Extras - PE, metal barrels, scratch add-ons, spares from the parts-lockers, etc. WOULD be allowed, right?).

Perhaps you can name this something like "BIG old kits from back of the stash" or something! I'm sure many folks out there have something that meets this description!

Because this is really the armor section... it may ease things a bit to keep it more confined to armor and land vehicles of all eras (not that I don't appreciate wingy stuff and the floatie crowd and all that!).... Just a suggestion!

Cheers!

Glad you like the idea, Bob!

I also agree, all add-on parts will be counted extra. As for land vehicles only, that was actually the idea behind rule 2 "Any land or hybrid vehicle, any scale, any era" where "hybrid" stands for air cushion vehicles if there is any kit fitting the bill.

So, we only need 8 more now

Cheers,
Cristian

Hi!

I'll probably in. I'm thinking about an HB AAVP-7 RAM/RS w/ EEAK and Voyager PE.

A question: And what about extras like tarpaulins, backpacks etc? I asked because I have a big set from Legend.

Cheers!

So, just FYI, just the kit has, acording to HB, 871 plastic parts. If this campaign will have all the people that it needs, I'm in!

Cheers!

Great, Marco! I'd say the Legend set and any other accessory set if fine.

Any idea on when you want to start and how long you want to run this campaign? That has a lot to do with whether people can participate.

@Marco: I had to look up that kit. A very nice choice!

@Paul: A valid point. I was thinking, start date around beginning of November with a runtime of around 12 months, given the kit sizes.

@ComradeMP: The Dana is a very nice choice. I have that on my wishlist since I first saw it. Looking forward to see it being built!

So we are four by now, maybe five if Paul is interested.

Cheers,
Cristian

Great to have you join, Jesper!

There are indeed a lot of kits that exceed this part count. I was thinking of the value 500 more as an inhibition threshold for most of us.

On a side note, I know I'm itching to start on this and given that started kits are allowed for the campaign what would you think of an option to be able to start building immediately instead of waiting for the official start?

We already have five who would join. So excited!

The year build time is a good idea. Less is definately possible but that means everything else gets put by the wayside to finish it well. November, December start and I'm in. I've got at least 6-8 kits that meet this requirement. What to build, what to build...

Sadly, I must admit that, being both an armor fan and addicted to kits with link tracks... And having been all-too-ready to BUY the often BIG kits for several years... I have HUNDREDS of kits which meet the lower limit! In fact, come to think of it... I wonder how many (how few?) of my stash-residents would NOT qualify for this campaign

There seems a real possibility that I may own over 400,000 kit-parts - many itty-bitty and increasingly hard to hold with the old fingers!...

I'm a relative newbie to armor with only 8-9 armor kits built and only 20 or so I the stash, but I have well over a hundred aircraft models waiting for assembly and 35+ years of modeling. Space for displaying built kits is my shortfall. Therefore I tend to more time consuming builds to save space... This campaign contributes to both goals!

Would 200 or so Magic Tracks or Fruils count toward the total

@Tat: Great to have you join? Any particular kit in mind already?

@Paul: So here's a great opportunity for you to build one more land vehicle!

@Anthony: I was thinking of the particular case of tracks before making the campaign proposal and I think single link tracks can be just as frightening as the turret bits of a T-80 so, YES, track links count towards the overall part count.

Seven and counting!

Cristian

Thanks Cristian. I have a couple of Dragon Pz IVs -- Ausf C and D that says 1000 - 1200 parts count on the boxes. Will look around the stash for options. Cheers, Tat

I have a few campaigns on the go at present but this build appeals. Need to look in the stash and if something fits the bill I am in.

@Tat: Sound good! I was not aware a Pz. IV can have such a high part count.

@Pete: We'd be glad to have you here!

Does the number of parts include aftermarket set parts or just the plastic kit ?
