Top-notch job all around!! Reminds me of that scene in "Patton" where the crew is checking a map, and the TC remarks that "we've run clear off the map."

I wondered if anyone would make that connection.

Thanks!

That would've made a great title for this. Regardless, very nicely done!🍺

Terry: this is eye-candy for sure! Great job! I like how you've installed the .50 cal MG Coax field mod.

Can I point out a tiny (and easily correctable) error? US tail lights only had the upper left lens red. They looked like this:

Hope this helps

The weathering is superb, stowage and crew extremely well done. The rust at points where water collects and fuel stains seem very realistic. But typical of Tamiya kits all periscopes are closed so the tank is parked, a ding on the company not the modeler. Many model companies now include the periscopes because a tank in action has its periscopes up. Something to look for if you want a realistic looking tank.

Probably something only a tanker would look for, on an otherwise amazing job.

Like it a lot, so don't take this wrong, but I've always wondered if these vehicles remained in service long enough to rust the way some modelers do them. Yours is at least subtle, but some make it seem that its been in use and never saw a cleaning in ten years! Saw one model of a piece of German armour that you could swear had been dragged out of some bush in Northern Poland in 1970, the way the rust streaks were. Truth is a lot of them didn't last long enough to wear that much. Not talking about dirt, I mean active, big rust.

Truth is a lot of them didn't last long enough to wear that much. Not talking about dirt, I mean active, big rust.

By the time shermans had been unsealed and prepped for combat they would already be showing signs of weathering from being shipped across the country on trains then across the salty Atlantic on ships, chains rattling on the top surfaces from hoisted onto and off trains then into cargo holds onto and off ships etc. Plus the factory to frontline voyage journey lasted 6-8 weeks. Then upon being issued crews walking on them during training and treking whatever mud, dirt, sand, etc they had just walked on onto the hull, then the rain, oil, and fuel spills further quickened the weathering and fading of paint.

Having worked with heavy machinery, I can attest that rusting starts Immediately after the very first scratches (first day you run a dozer or wheel loader blades and buckets rust quick, especially in rainy or winter conditions). These kinds of vehicles also kicked up a lot of stuff onto each other in columns like small rocks, gravel, and dust. So the chipping and scratching on certain ares of these vehicles would be significant.

Most vintage photos if studied show messy, dirty, vehicles, with everything from spent shell casings, cigarette butts, to food wrappers and other trash bouncing around on top of the tank. Any extended combat service like was comon with command tanks would make for a very faded chipped tank especially in units seeing a lot of action. The 1945 nuremberg wreck of a remanufactered M4A1 is proof that enough vehicles survived campaigns and were uodated to newer standards before being put back in service. So yes, many tanks wouldve looked ireal bad at one point or another the longer they were being used. There are photos of an Russian M4A2 used by German troops in Normandy without any rubber left on the tires running metal on metal and still operable.
