Hello Fellow Modelers,

I am planning to make the Egyptian version of the T34/85 tank, and until recently I was under the impression that the only paint scheme for it was the simple "light Stone" plain paint. Even during the 1973 war. Yet I recently came upon this old decal instruction sheet by VB Decals which claims there are 4 different camo schemes which were used for the Egyptian T34/85 during 1973

I haven't found any other reference or photo for these schemes anywhere on the internet or in books. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? does anyone have these paint schemes in color illustration or photos?

Thanks

Hussein

Thank you Andrew.
This still shows the plain desert color version, there is no mention of the other 3 versions with 2 and 3 color camouflage. I have my doubts that they ever existed.

Three colors but alas, black and white.

Hussein,

I'd be cautious using anything but actual photos for references on Egyptian tank markings. I've seen some pretty weird illustrations from model companies and books. Also, bear in mind that few T-34/85s were used in 1973, they were in reserve and probably only saw combat in the defensive battles west of the Canal.

Wayne,
Thanks for the photo! That certainly looks like an Egyptian T-34/85 with camouflage -- one of the very few photos I've seen of one. It's hard to tell if it's really from 1973 however; I did a reverse image search for it hoping I'd find a more detailed caption but couldn't.

Chris

Vasko’s article in Mil Mod about the Egyptian T-34-85 had a page of colour photos of them which showed cam schemes. They certainly weren’t all plan sand.
