Dear All!

For US Modern vehicles in desert color, what paint do You recommend? I´ve tried Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow, the color recommended for their M1A2 TUSK, M1046 etc. But XF-59 is too "warm" and not correct according to reference pictures. Then I tried Ammo Mig 025 (FS33446) which should be correct (?). But it seems to be too pale and almost "greyish". Even with different types of weathering I still do not achieve a color that resembles the reference pictures online or in Tankograd books.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

(One example)

And yes I did search the Armorama network, the matter has been discussed before

I use Model Master Modern Desert Sand 1963 enamel in the spray can and Tamiya Acrylic XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan for touch up or fine detail work.

Thanks! I´ve been mixing paint all morning. Different combinations of Ammo Mig 025 and 085. Went from 50/50 to 90/10 without success. Then I tried different mixes of Tamiya XF-55, XF-57 and XF-59. Ending up with 50/50 XF-57 and XF-59.

Anyway, came up with a solution that looks quite good compared to the reference pictures.
So first I sprayed an even layer of Ammo Mig 025. Then multiple thin "misty" layers of 50/50 XF-57 and XF-59 mixed together with Tamiya Thinner X-20A, a 50/50 mix.

The color looks good and it also has a nice "depth". Now we have to see how it turns out after weathering

The best color match for modern US armored vehicles is FS33531. You can use Mr Color C-313 Yellow or Model Master 4720 Sand FS33531. AK Interactive also have this color in its Real Color range. Beware of the CARC TAN 686A FS33446 in this range, its too brownish and dark.
