OK, so now you figured out that I'm poor and a little on the cheap side. I'm seriously considering the paasche vl (see other post) and I need a suitable air supply (from what I hear the cans are a waste of time)

Has anyone made an airtank that they use as a supply for their airbrush? I am also an avid Jeeper, and I know that some jeepers use old fire extinguisher bottles as a good supply, but I'm not aware of what is required for an AB setup.

Thanks
John

Walmart has a Campbell/Hausfeld compressor w/tank for $89.

Not sure if that's too much for you, just a suggestion. It works great for me.

Steve Bamford of Aircraftresourcecenter.com has an article on modifying your own air tank here:

Thanks.
I guess by the time I end up buying the fittings, filter, tank, and regulator it would end up being about the same price as the wally- world setup.

It cost me about $45 for a 20 lb CO2 tank and another $50 for the regulator. But it is perfectly quite and requires no water trap for carbon dioxide.

Gotta concur with the CO2 suggestions. I have four 20lb bottles, and a 5 lb and they are the ticket. One bottle lasted me close to a year. Very cost effective as far as refills go too. Compressors have parts that wear out over time. I have the 5lb bottle for use on the road...ie, going to contests and the kit isnt quite finished and I have enough itme to complete it. Works great on vacations too for some minor building projects. "Q"

As some of you in the chatroom know I drive tractor trailer in the U.S. I bought a 50 foot airline that I hook up to my red air line connector (glad hand) I also bought a adjustable air gage, double male thread conector, and a braided air line All I have to do is push in the trailer brakes, and walla I have air My truck has an air dryer so I don't have to worry about water getting in the lines #:-)

GeneralZod - The ultimate $100,000 air compressor I'm impressed. We use to use the air compressor nozzle in the cab of the M35A1/A2 2-1/2 ton trucks to spray paint out tanks.

You can try to recuperate the motor from an old refrigerator...
But you'd need stuff for airflow regulation.

Since I can't stand listening to the diaphragm compressor going all the time, I simply fill up a 5-gallon air storage tank with one of my large construction compressors and I'm good for awhile!
The storage tank cost me $30.00 at Home Depot.
You could (until you can afford a compressor) just simply fill it up at a local gas station, or automotive shop for free.
