Today, the Japanese Shizuoka Hobby Show begins. All the major manufacturers are there and use it as a major showcase for their future releases. The first we have got information from, is DML who have confirmed some previously announced releases and added a couple of REAL surprises. In the latter category, comes the M4a3e8 in 1/35th scale... The full story including images, can be seen:

Cool!! It's nice when something finally gets confirmed and doesn't remain a long term feature in the catalogue

Just wish they wouldn't do box-art like that though......

Nope, an M16. No, it DOESN'T mean that will be the next DM release either..Jim :-)

Why do I have this feeling that Dragon put that M16 there intentionally to tease us?

Jim,
Where's the surprise about the M4A3(76)HVSS? It's been in the Dragon catalog since '05 plus you noted it in a news release on Feb 7, 2005. I guess my thoughts on it are, "it's about time" and "I hope they don't screw this one up."

Hi Jim,
There is something evocative about horse mounted troops amongst all of the mobility of the armour, like looking backwards to the days before world war 1, so I look forward to the new figures and even as a dedicated german armour modeller the M4A4E8 may very well finds itself a place on my shelves, even if it is a little outnumbered by the Axis kits.

Thanks,

John

Great news Jim, and thanks as always for sharing.

As to the M3,M16 the other day I was at the LHS and they just got in a new shipment. One was, I thought, a DML Pershing, with a German halftrack in the background wearing US White stars. I've not seen that box art before but I thought it was only right, after all the US halftracks in the background of other kits.

Good news, Jim, thanks for posting.

Both the Shermans will be welcomed. I really like how Dragon is going to do the USMC M4A2, so that one just got added to my list of "have-to-haves".

Yet another Sd Kfz 251 Ausf D, but good just the same.

It will be interesting to see how the Dragon Flakpanzer I compares to the Tristar offering (I have this kit).

What I really like are those Dragon "G2" German 1st Cavalry figures and horses. Not something you see everyday, and that should keep people happy.

Keep up the unrelenting attack Dragon !!

Cheers !!

Journalistic licence?

It is a surprise in the sense there were several items I was expecting before this. The fact it is a completely new kit is going to make a real difference - particularly with the new running gear. What DML has to consider now are 105mm Shermans....Jim

Matt, there is no need to worry - there's going to a lot of 1/72nd scale announced over the next few months. On that very subject, I got the NEW M4a3(76) this morning - If this is what we can expect this year, NO-ONE has anything to worry about - it is absolutely beautiful....Jim

So DML is now the only modelling company re-leasing anything at the show?

Well, they're the only company who saw fit to actually mail Armorama with details of its new releases.

I don't know how I should interpret this comment actually. As this is a 'DML Specific' News story, what exactly should I be talking about in this story?

Tamiya have shown some 'New' (previously announced) material at the show, however as they haven't sent me a Press release on them and I'm not taking images from other sites, all suggestions would be gratefully accepted....Jim

The new cavalry set is coming at a time when I'm looking for 1/35 horses, but hmmm, no offense to anyone, but they look a bit boring... that said it's also dificult to gauge the complete pose of the set from the single picture.... also, is it just me or do those rear legs look a bit odd? and the lower legs? As I said... perhaps it's just me....

I agree with the above comment.... DML, bless them, really shouldn't tease us by putting a M16 MGMC on the box-art of another kit... heck, that was the first thing I noticed :-) but, hey, nice looking Sherman as well. BTW, was Thunderbolt VII by any chance used in the Battle of the Bulge? 'Cos apparently this was also one of the few time the M16 MGMC was used in it's intended role as AAA

Hey Rudi,

Well I have to agree with you regarding the poses of the horses in the picture. Both are meant to be at the trot (I try to fill in the gaps when designing such things...we've already got standing horses and others have done galloping horses).

In any event, I'll have to have words with HK in this regard. Thanks for pointing it out.

So, has anymore news from Shizuoka come across the wire. Just curious, as I know in the past it seemed as if some of the companies also made announcements on the second day as well.

Cheers,

Hi all,

Thanks for posting this Jim. Nice to see these kits coming onto the market.

I like the look of the 2cm flak - looks like a neat little kit.

The Sherman's will be welcome and hoepfully their Shermna III is not too far off. Now they have the body for the Mk III and Mk V lets hope they develope this further and bring out a couple of nice DD versions - that would just 'Make My Day'.

This little lot should keep a few people very happy.

Cheers

Al
