The Cold War M60 is coming from DEF Model, and it includes the tank. There also a few small bits too.
DEF Model has announced the M60A3 TTS, this will be a fully detailed model, in cooperation with both Academy and AFV Club. Along with the usual great looking DEF Model upgrades, it will include the Academy tank kit, and the AFV Club workable track.

Also from DEF Model is a PE set of US Jerrycan holders and RSO canvas cover.

Thank you for posting this, Kevin! The M60A3 TTS, Jerrycan Holder PE Set, and the RSO Canvas Cover all look very nice. The M60 has a few items that would be spares and could be used on other kits (i.e.; either the resin covered or un-covered smoke grenade launchers, the extra set of periscope decals). I'm not an expert, but the M60 looks like it has pretty much all you would need other than figures and some stowage items.

DEF seems to have a winner on the M60A3 upgrade set with the Academy kit. I like the option of using the fiberglass (M60A3 style) with the correct retaining bands or aluminum (M1 style) thermal shrouds for the forward part of the 105mm gun. Adding the DEF hull upgrades probably would have sweetened the pot but pushed the cost too high but would make it a kit that you would not have to add anything else to: the ultimate OOB kit. I was a bit let down with the decals, and having only one US marking option, a tank from the early 80s from 3-12 Cav, 3AD. The ROC and Egyptian marking options did catch my eye as they represent the less traveled but current road. FWIW John

Very nice. Seems like a nice idea (still) would be for Tamiya or Academy to do an accurizing update on their basic kits.

John (or anyone else that might know), would this barrel be of any use to spice up the old Tamiya plain M1 kit? Cheers, /E

Eric, I don't see why it couldn't be used on a M1. You would have to add the Muzzle Reference System, which on the M1, clamped on to the muzzle. The MRS could be fabricated with some strip and rod. just make sure that the rear of tube of the MRS is pointing towards the Gunners Primary Sight on the roof of the turret. Simple fix John
