Some news from Panda has the Soviet Airborne version of the BMP on the way in 1/35 scale.
Panda has announced a BMD-1, this amphibious tracked vehicle is thought of as the airborne version of the BMP. Designed in the late 1960’s, the Soviets were in need of a vehicle that was transportable by the Antonov An-12 to support airborne troops. According the box art, the kit will also include photo-etched for some extra detail.

PH35004 – Russian BMD-1

Armorama would like to thank Panda for the update.

I'll wait for pictures of the sprues before being too optimistic. I'm really interested in seeing how they will tackle the track link shape.

Agree. Two really hard bones... Considering those previous kits, I'm not too optimistic about this new release Let's wait to see the actual sprues -not only a box-art- and also let's hope I'm wrong

I won't lose any sleep over it. It's not like there is no other good kits in plastic (unlike the M103 for instance, Dragon messed it up but you have no alternative), as discussed over on the Russo-Soviet forum the Zvezda kit is really good, provided you upgrade it with aftermarket tracks. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/220524&page=1 Cheers, Christophe

I got the kit a couple weeks ago and its nice, with slightly finer details then the Zvezda kit, but not a huge leap forward. The Tracks aren't the greatest either...they really didn't capture the shape of the guide teeth properly. If you have the Zvezda kit with updates already, you can pass over this kit.

Thanks for the heads-up Scott! I still consider the Zvezda kit a nice one, if you take in account its of an "older" generation of kit engineering...

Hi again Many thanks to Chris Johnson who's stepped up to the mark to tackle this one as his first Review for us. I send the kit off as soon as I can. All the best Rowan
