The innovative Black Label series from Dragon features a stunning new
1/35 scale kit of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile launcher, a centerpiece of the THAAD system.
THAAD targets short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase. Relying on kinetic energy, the 900kg THAAD interceptor uses a hit-to-kill approach rather than an explosive-filled warhead.

The M1120 emanates from the well-known HEMTT truck series built by the Oshkosh Corporation. The 8x8 launcher, powered by a 450hp Detroit Diesel 8V92TA engine, boasts eight missiles.

Never before has this THAAD launcher been available as a plastic kit in 1/35 scale, so this is clearly an ambitious addition to Black Label’s range.

The missile canisters and launcher mechanism mounted are finely detailed.

An ability to elevate and rotate the launcher allows modelers to pose the vehicle exactly as they wish. Indeed, the outriggers can also be deployed for a launch vignette.

Furthermore, the eight tubular missile canisters are made of metal for maximum realism.

I wonder what the "innovative" part of Black Label is .... / Robin

Their choice of subjects? Ignoring everything else, you have to admit that they have done subjects that were new and highly desired. You may not be able to say anything else positive about them, but they at least did that. KL

Probably still based on Italeri HEMTT parts, like their M983. I'll pass.

Here I was thinking that they thought that the innovation was the supreme lack of correctness. I stand (or rather sit) corrected Let's hope for the best then ..... / Robin

Seriously, when I read it, I was thinking, "innovative" in being inaccurate and disappointing hobbyists.

Nothing like cramming the market with repeat offers. We really don't need eight different offerings of the King Tiger, four different variants of tanks that never existed outside someone's feverish, overactive imagination, or feeble additions of a few pieces to make an unlikely variant; we need something long overdue like a really good Bergepanther. Even at today's STUPID prices I'd buy one (guess that makes me...) but I'm so sick of the meaningless offerings. How about the MBT-70 kit that can't seem to get it right?

Who knows, maybe the command post version of Sd.Kfz. 2 (KettenKRad) is the next kit. Radio, batteries, foldable table and the star antenna in the little trailer with the encryption machine, radio operator and headset in the backwards facing seat. The second KRad would carry the commanding officer and an assistant. The drivers double as the security/guards for the comman post. / Robin
