ICM Holding this month has finally released its kit on the first Sd.Kfz. 251 variant.
Designed by Hanomag of Germany, the Sd.Kfz. 251 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251) half-track was a WWII-era armored fighting vehicle based on the unarmored Sd.Kfz. 11. Developed to transport Panzergrenadiers into battle, Sd.Kfz. 251s were the most widely produced half-tracks, with more than 15,000 units produced by various manufacturers.

The Ausf.A appeared in mid-1939, and was first allocated to the Panzergrenadiers of the 1st Panzer Division, seeing action at the outbreak of the Polish campaign. It is estimated that 350 units were produced from 1939 up to middle of 1940.

ICM Holding’s Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.A (35101) boasts of 100% new molds that builds a model featuring chassis, engine, and interior details. A decal sheet for 4 finishing options completes the offering.

Background information on the vehicle sourced from Tank-Encyclopedia and Wikipedia.

As long as it's better than the old Nitto 251/B I'll consider it.

I built a Nitto one and have the rocket version in my stash. My god, they are an abomination!! I will build it as a heavily modified sci-fi thingie for my Bandai peeps...

Most of the pics I have seen don't show the mount, although there is a walk-around that has the mount on a bracket welded to the hull just above the front of the left fender.

There's a picture of the fender antenna mount in the 251 Half Track book by David Doyle . Caption states early on antenna mounted on fender , later moved to upper side of body . Sorry can't post a picture , I suck at computers , now if you want some one to fix your 8 track ....

Damn wish I still had my '77:T Bird! Thanks for the antennae note. I searched google a bit didn't find any *drumroll* aerial shots!

There are some good pics of General von Saucken's 251/6 in Concord #7025, it's an ausf. A and is interesting because it should have been retired at that time. It could be a fairly easy conversion.

Aaaand..BOOM! A 251/6 a in the catalogue!!!

I still wish that Dragon had released their version (DR-6227) way back when and we wouldn't be having this love fest for this kit. And their belated Uhu kit, etc. Teasing is bad for business and disagrees with my digestion.
