It's too bad Hataka paint sucks. I bought into several colors in their orange line and they still need some work. They spray great and flow out nicely, but their pigmentation is pathetically transparent. For example, I'm working on an Abrams build and used tamiya gray primer as a base before applying their FS 33531 sand. It took 3 or 4 coats to cover the gray acceptably. It's still not perfect, but I gave up and decided to just live with it as is (accidental scale effect haha). One thing that did help is I started using Tamiya Lacquer thinner instead of the Hataka thinner. I was able to thin it much less and still got it to flow out well. This made it more acceptable to paint, and so I'll probably try to use up what paint I have and then retire them completely.

Doesn't match my experience with the Red Line paints. Mine sprayed very nicely straight from the bottle, with none of the tip clogging I'm used to from Vallejo and Ammo paints, and with far better coverage than I get from either of those. They're the best non-Tamiya acrylic I've tried so far.

My experience was with their lacquer orange line, but I've read about similar if not worse complaints about the red line. I believe they did a re-formulation at some point so perhaps the red is better now. Ironically, I can spray MIG just fine. I use Tamiya X-20A thinner and it sprays like thinned Tamiya paint for me. No clogging and there's virtually no surface tension issues. I'm trying to shift all of my colors over to AK Real Colors, which sprays a little better than Tamiya. I still have lots of Tamiya and MM enamels that I'll phase out as I use them up. It's interesting how modelers can have different experiences with the same products.

Indeed! And I'll have to give the Tamiya thinner with the Mig paints a try, thanks for the tip!
