MR Modellbau ventures into the what-if scenario with its alternative turret kit for the Tiger IIB.
"Kastenturm" Box-type Turret for Tiger IIB (MR-35618).

From the manufacturer: As fictive as the whole turret is the gun designated as “10.5cm Kw.K 50 L/64” which is included in the MR Models conversion as turned Aluminum gun barrel. The Tiger IIB upper hull was never designed for a larger, box-type turret with more inner volumina, to achieve the full rotation of such a turret the center section of engine deck must be replaced by a new part. Also the driver hatch arrangement would have been modified, so we have designed a new driver compartment roof plate with new hatches.

MR-35618 was designed to work with the Meng Tiger II kit.

Did this one ever get to the design phase at least? Never heard of it, but considering the number of desperate proposals towards the end that isn't really saying much. Interesting idea though without a better engine (maybe the MB turbo diesel?)it would reduce performance even more with the extra weight that this turret implies...

I don't think it was ever a paper panzer, more a what-if. [/quote] What's up?!? I thought for sure that you "Paper Panzer/What-If-Guys" would be "ALL OVER" this thing! Aside of their Jet Fighters, the V-1 and the V-2, the Germans weren't coming up with very many ideas that made very much sense after late 1943...
