Although never acheiving the popularity as a modeling subject of the M4, the M5 Light Tank has had an equally long and distinguished service. It has certainly been documented before but never as completely as the M4. Therefore any new book on the subject is to be welcomed with open arms...
The author of this new book, Kurt Laughlin, should be well known to many with the highly-acclaimed work he has done on many aspects of U.S, AFVs. Now, with this new book he has written what should be particularly valuable for those working on AFV Club's new M5 or anyone who wants documentation on the M8 Howitzer Motor Carriage.

The new book is titled:

A Field Guide to the M5 Series Light Tanks and the M8 Howitzer Motor Carriage.

The book is a is a detailed study of the evolution and modifications applied to the M5 and M5A1 light tanks and the M8 howitzer motor carriage during their service in World War II. It is 89 pages long and is illustrated with over 125 images showing the details of the changes with drawings and both wartime and modern photographs. The book also includes a table giving month-by-month production data, serial and registration numbering, and a modification timeline. The book is printed with 'coil-type' binding which allows it to lie flat for easier study..

As to AVAILABILITY it will get its 'premiere' this weekend at the AMPS Show. It will be abailable for purchase on the Formations table at the show.

The book will be getting sold by Formations. However, it WON'T be available from them until APRIL 14.

We'll also be carrying a FULL Review of the book in the next week or so - something else to look forward to.

I've updated the story slightly with details of where to purchase it... Also, Steve Zaloga, has published a 'first-look' over on Missing-Lynx which acts as a good 'mouth-waterer' . It can be seen: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47208/message/1207598527/Kurt+Laughlin%27s+new+M5A1+book-First+look

I got mine from Kurt yesterday and have had a very hard time putting it down. There has really been nothing like it printed for any WW II U.S. tank. The timing of it is perfect with the release of the AFV Club M5A1 and TMD M5A1 updates. Highly recommended. Chris "toadman" Hughes Toadman's Tank Pictures
