Quickwheel Masks
|
QuickWheel have developed a new type of mask to help paint tires on armor roadwheels.
There are many different ways of painting the rubber tires on roadwheels of model AFVs. Some people use adhesive masks some use photoetch masks, others use permanent markers or just trust to a steady hand and a thin brush. Well here’s a new variation on the mask idea from Polish modeler Grzegorz Rossa under the name QUICKWHEEL.
It seems a simple enough idea enabling the modeler to paint multiple roadwheels at the same time. You can see the technique here on the painting guide (LINK)
These two sets are for the Pzr III and the Panther/Jagdpanther.

Thanks! Asmenoth Wow...this belongs in the "I can't believe I didn't think of that" category. I need to order a set or two to try....
:D wbill76 An interesting concept. I wonder if the masks are reusable and if they are "thinner safe" for cleanup to avoid paint build-up? I like the idea...it takes the idea of a circle template and multiplies it essentially to allow all the wheels to be loaded in instead of done one at a time. Hisham I tried the circle template idea and I bought 3 different templates with all kinds of different sizes.. but I can never find a size that fits my needs. It's either too big or too small.. never exactly the same size needed :(
This product looks good, but it's a little expensive seeing as it's designed for one particular size of wheels and can't be used with others.
Hisham squidgy i have ordered 3 sets for the panzer iv (if you go to atak web site they have a lots more types available), once they get here i will try them out and give my opinion, exer
Great Mark we have got some reviews of the masks in the pipeline including the Pzr but it will be interesting to see how they work out for you.
I have also updated the story with a list of the masks available. squidgy hello out there
My masks arrived pretty quick from poland , I ordered one set for the dragon panzer iv and one for the italeri panzer iv, so I decided to try them out on 2 different sets of wheels, the fit for both was fine, except the track rollers for the dragon kit would not fit in the dragon one, I had to use the tamiya one, it was a recent kit from cyber hobby so maybe the sizes are a little different for each kit ?
as you can see from the pictures I airbrushed the wheels with matt... squidgy having issues with pictures will post once i figure it out
thaks HeavyArty I don't get it. Whats so special about them? Its just a circle template cut to fit an individual vehicle. I make them all the time for my models. Seems like a waste to me to pay for them. exer
There's nothing to "get". These masks are a convenience for modelers that aren't as good as you are at making perfect circle templates or don't want to or don't have time or just want to try something new. And if people have the money to spare and want to spend their money on them then it's not a waste. |
