Brett Elphick has just been visiting the Military Modelling Fair in Seoul and was able to obtain images of a VERY desired 1/35th scale release..
USMC M50A1 Ontos is finally getting released as an injection-moulded kit in 1/35th scale.

Curiously enough, it's been announced by the Korean manufacturer Academy, who, previously, tended to go for 'safer' subjects. This definitely comes into the 'highly unusual' category!

My thanks to Brett for keeping his eyes and camera shutter open!

Incorrect, the Ontos saw use in its intended role during Operation Power Pack in the Dominican Republic in 1965, scoring hits against a Landsverk L-60 and a AMX-13 being operated by rebel forces. From: LINK This, however, was the only instance of it being used in its intended role. The Ontos was also deployed to Lebanon in 1958, but saw no action against enemy armor there.

I recall building an Ontos many many moons ago. Don't remember the maker or even the scale. Glad to see something different coming out for us modelers.

There was an Ontos next to my position in my first fire fight in Vietnam. I don't recall them having a splinter shield on their .30 cal machine gun. Semper Fi, Dave

Previous experience would indicate that Academy are NOT the most enthusiastic manufacturer of individual track links, however, am I wrong in thinking that their Merkavas had them ? [/quote] Jim, The Academy Tiger Is had individual track links. Jeff

I remember building the old Renwal kit many years ago. It was always one of my favorites. I will be getting this Ontos. Any one remember the Renwal M47 with the crew that popped up or went in with the gun barrel. They also all had engines with opening grill doors. TC
