Announced a couple of weeks ago with the usual CAD Images and poster, this report offers something a little different - actual images of both the complete model and the sprues.
This is a photo report on Dragon Models' 1/35th scale model of:

6678 - IJN Type 2 (Ka-Mi) Amphibious Tank

Nice to see DML finally venturing a little way out of their comfort zone. I've been more into figure-painting these past months and not really feeling the love for armour (so I've not been on here much lately, and have only just seen this). But it's something a little different that's for sure, and I might just pick one up when the tank bug bites again (which I know it will). - Steve

I don't get this...first you complain there isn't one in plastic...then change your complaint that its quite expensive...WTF do you what? Its cheaper then the resin kit and far easier to build then a resin kit..I guess you really don't want one that badly...just say that instead of changing your tune. If you really want something, you'll pay a premium for it. As for it being expensive...I paid roughly $100 bucks for it...a FineMolds Type 97 lists for about $60 bucks in the States and I didn't get 3 copies of Armor Modelling with it, which are about $10-15 pop if bought separately. Only complaint I have about the kit is that its Last version instead of the "late" one used in the Philippines. But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them release this version in the near future..they did something similar with their 1/72 Zero kits...

[/quote] The Type 89 kit is a limited edition which means when they are gone, that's it. Someone still needs to come out with a regular kit that people can buy years from now.

Its also a limited edition kit not intended for world-wide sales If you don't make many of them the price goes up...if there is not that much demand are you supposed to lose money on that product? If this kit is overpriced, then nearly 99% of the kits we buy are over priced also

"Limited Edition" means what the manufacture wants it to mean...it can be a run of 100 kits or 100K kits...its still limited. As for buying it years from now, its next to impossible to get a AFV Club Shot 1973 from any distrutubor...and that isn't even a "limited edition" kit. All you want is a cheap way of getting the kit down the road....

And what is so wrong about wanting to be able to buy a more reasonably priced kit down the road?

Keeping it affordable is what most people look for. Limited edition stuff can be fun, but cases like the Type 89 are just annoying. On a side note AFV Club needs to put their discontinued Centurion kits back into production, especially the IDF versions.

200%+ vs what? Like I stated before, the Type 89 is priced "reasonably" For example, the PitRoad Type 92 Tank lists for 3,800 yen, The FineMolds Type 97 Medium is the same price. Armor Modeling Magazine is 1,314 Yen...so lets do the math here: 1314 yen 3x= 3942 Yen So 3x Armor Modelling Magazine plus average cost of a IJN Tank kit in 1/35 scale is 3800 Yen Which works out to 7742 Yen and the Armor Modelling 3 pack that includes the kit from HLJ is 8001 Yen. Plus you get a set of "free" IJA figures with it. Given that I can't get Armor Modelling easily in the USA, a up-charge of 250ish Yen (roughly 2 bucks or so US) isn't a big deal. So I still fail to see how this kit is overpriced....
