Review

For Russian armor fans Ammo by Mig has put together another starter set that covers Russian AFV’s from the Cold War to present. The set contains four shades of green that can be used on tanks, armored vehicles, and soft skin vehicles from 1956 to the present day.

The greens range from what looks to be the World War 2 4BO Green with the Russian Base to the Post War green, with the post war green a darker shade. A Green Khaki is included that is very reminiscent of an Olive Drab color. For more modern AFV’s the Protective NC1200 green is included in the set, a dark bluish green.

To have a close look at the colors, using a brush I applied the paint directly onto a piece of styrene with no primer. While I am not sure the paint is actually meant for brushing as the box states it is acrylic paint for airbrushing, it does go on well and with more care look to be able provide great coverage.

Airbrushing of the paint goes very well. Being the second set I have looked at, I have become a lot more comfortable in the use by airbrush of the Ammo by Mig paints. I find they provide great control in the ability to apply even and very light coats. I applied the Post War Green to a T-62 build on my bench, and while I did not pre-shade, the ability to apply thin coats would provide for great looking modulation using these thin coats. I should note that I did use a few drops of the Ammo by Mig thinner during the airbrushing.

Like the previous review, the paints did clean up well from my airbrush using Ammo by Mig cleaner.
As I am not an expert in Russian greens, from images I have seen on the internet and in some reference books, the colors look good. It should also be noted that the shades can be effect by dust and fading, so finding the exact color without the official color chip can be difficult.

Overview

Overall the new Russian Green starter paint set from Ammo by Mig is a great set of green colors for Russian AFV’s. The paint goes on well, looks to close, and being acrylic cleans up well. For fans of Russian vehicles this looks to be a great set to have on hand, recommended.
