by: Alan McNeilly [ ALANL ]

Introduction

Following on from the release of their 9.2 inch WW1 howitzer (kit No 35.1244) Resicast released a base for the gun. GBS bases/kits are only available directly through Resicast.

The kit

The base measures 8.5inches by just over 10.5inches. Cast in light grey resin in has a range of items moulded into the base, including sandbags, rope, and various lengths of planking and wood. It provides a ready-made mounting for the Resicast 9.2 inch World War One British Howitzer previously released by the Resicast.

No instructions are included with the base as it is self-explanatory through the box pictures in how it builds together. However, a separate set of sandbags is supplied to add to the build along with a range of tools buckets and boxes plus a selection of 9.2 inch shells and charges.

The base comes packed in a sturdy box with the parts wrapped bubble foil for protection.

Conclusion

A detailed base that will save time and effort in constructing a mount for the 9.2 inch howitzer. Detail across the base is very good, from the muddy earth to the scattering of items and kit found on any battlefield of the time.

Individual shells and charges plus the range of common military kit one would expect to find around the gun allow individual options for finish.

I’ve used several of the GBS bases and kits in the past and have always been very pleased with the results.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
