Introduction

“FN America, LLC, is a U.S. subsidiary of FN Herstal, S.A., a global leader in the development and manufacturing of high-quality, reliable firearms for military, law enforcement, and commercial customers worldwide. In November of 2004, FN was awarded the full FN SCAR® contract for both 5.56mm and 7.62mm rifles, along with the 40mm Enhanced Grenade Launcher Module (EGLM).”

The FN MK 17 specifications:
CALIBER: 7.62x51mm
OPERATION: Short-stroke gas piston
MAG CAPACITY: 10 or 20 Rd.
WEIGHT: 7.7 lb.
BARREL LENGTH: 13”
OVERALL LENGTH: 25" - 35"
EFFECTIVE RANGE: 500m point target
RATE OF FIRE: 600 RPM
COLOR: Flat Dark Earth
RECEIVER: Hard-anodized monolithic aluminum receiver; MIL-STD-1913 accessory rails at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions; front and rear back-up iron sights adjustable/foldable/removable
BARREL: Cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating; over 16,000 round barrel life; barrel can be changed by operator in less than 5 minutes with a point of impact shift of less than 1 MOA from previously established zero; highly effective flash hider/QD suppressor interface
STOCK: Telescopic design; side folding feature provides for a more compact weapon package in aircraft and vehicle deployments, and can still be fired from the folded position; adjustable cheekpiece; composite polymer construction
OPERATING CONTROLS: Ambidextrous selector lever and magazine release; charging handle may be mounted on right or left side; enlarged trigger guard for easier access when wearing gloves; adjustable gas regulator for use with sound suppressor to maintain constant rate of fire
MAGAZINE: Steel magazine body; low-friction follower; extended magazine base pad for improved ergonomics
SCOPE: ELCAN SpecterDR SU-230/PVS
AIMING DEVICE: Not sure what type of AN/PEQ is in the kit, so I don’t want to speculate and guess what it is.

The Kit

There are 16 parts in total. Four rifles and 4 pour blocks with scope, AN/PEQ, and forward pistol grip attached to it. The parts are cast in gray resin and this is soft enough to cut, yet not to brittle to brake easily. The pour blocks are attached to obscure locations and connection points to the part are thin enough, when cut, little cleanup is needed.

Parts are cast very cleanly with no flash at all. Detail is well defined, as what is expected for 3D castings. Charging handle, magazine and bolt release buttons are very well defined.

As mentioned above, I am not sure what AN/PEQ is represented but it is still looks closely to what I found on the internet. I did manage to find out what scope is being represented, an ELCAN Specter DR SU-230/PVS and it looks the part. If you want, as with the OPERATORS who use this rifle, you can dress them up with any PEQ, scope, hand guard or any other accessory you want. Live Resin and their accessories are ideal for this.

Conclusion

Master Box Ltd’s sets “Under Fire, Modern US Infantry” and “Man Down! US Modern Army, Middle East, Present Day” has one FN in its kit. Very nice rifles but these can be bettered with these as replacements. Also, the “Under Fire” sets rifles can be replaced with these along with some Live Resin Helmets and heads and weapon accessories to make US Special Operators. As usual, Legend has released a great product and it is greatly useful to any resin or plastic Special Operator figure or figure set.
SUMMARY
Highs: High quality resin that is not brittle yet soft enough to cut and clean up. Obscure pure block connection points to parts.
Lows: Would have liked for the silencer to be a separate part so that you can have a standard FN MK.17.
Verdict: As usual, Legend has released a great product and this is greatly useful to any resin or plastic Special Operator figure or figure set.

Good review. I'm building one of LR's turrets right now, and the resin is very hard and difficult to glue onto other resin parts. Did you have that issue? Also, one of the many pieces in the box is broken and the broken-off part is MIA. I wonder about having it replaced?

Bill, I have had excellent results getting replacement parts from the vendor I bought the kit from such as BNA, or directly from Yaroslav of Live Resin. I'd contact the vendor first and see what they think. Regards, Eric
