Introduction

Legend Productions has got into 3D mastering in a big way and that has resulted in a large number of very nice resin products in the form of weapons and figures in two main scales. One of the latest releases from Legend Productions is a Mk 19 Automatic Grenade Launcher on SAG Shield Mount in 1/35th scale.

Review

This offering from Legend Productions is packaged in the usual card end opening box favoured by Legend when the product is of a suitable size. This is protected by a stiff plastic that completely seals the box. Inside there should be I believe a single sheet of paper as a guide to assembly of the product. The resin parts themselves are packed in a Ziploc plastic bag which ensures that all of the parts reach you even if they come off of the carriers.

The Mk 19 Grenade launcher enables the soldier to get a grenade further and more accurately than would otherwise be possible. This offering from Legend Productions matches the online images I have checked it against. The weapon has been supplied in a number of parts consisting of the main body of the weapon and separate handle grips. The cocking handles are supplied separately and the modeller has been provided with two barrels with different muzzle guards. The muzzles regardless of choice will need to be drilled lightly to improve the finish. On the subject of the barrels it should be noted that a small recessed area has been moulded and so making the drilling process a little easier.

The feed rails on the left side of the weapon are present, but I have seen this detail missing in some uses and so I am unsure why these would be removed and increase the chance of a round entering askew. Provided for use is an infra red light source with its mounting frame, the frame will benefit from a little clean up due to a small amount of flash being present. At the rear you are provided with a choice of a view screen or telescopic sight, it is up to the modeller how they wish to depict it.

The ammunition box is filled and Legend Productions has provided a belt of 12 grenades for use with the launcher; if dark paint is applied in the ammunition box these should easily give the impression of a full box. The skeleton frame for holding and attaching the ammunition box to the weapon itself is nicely done, but again will benefit from careful clean up to remove the flash and give the frame its sharp lines back.

The armoured shield has been well tackled with very good detail present. The bracket that secures the shield to the weapon mount has been designed in such a way that you will achieve a positive location for it. The mounting frame itself is quite complex and is surprisingly a single piece. The elevation connecting point is a weak area of the model, not in terms of the detail but the strength of the area will make it an easy area to break. The swivel point of the mount has been well tackled and allows the modeller to easily swivel the MG to the angle they prefer. The locking elements of the mount are all present and add a very nice level of detail that is often missed or simplified in injection moulded offerings. A final nice touch here is the elevating screw that enables the weapon to fire on a set horizontal setting.

Conclusion

The detail provided with this offering is very good in all aspects. The common issues usually found with resin products such as air bubbles are not present in this example. There is of course some flash that will need cleaning up as the moulding process make this an inevitable aspect of resin kits. I did note a few areas where some touch up to the resin will be of benefit, but these are few and far between. The missing instruction sheet is a disappointment, but the Legend Productions website does come to the rescue here.
