Introduction:

I’m sure most of you are familiar with Live Resin. The company revolutionized scale modeling by introducing 3D technology into the model making process, creating ultra-realistic weapon, accessory and figure sets in different scales.

Live Resin recently released number of Special Ops figures designed to fit 1/35 scale Pave Hawk/Black Hawk offerings from Kitty Hawk and Academy, many of which are reviewed on Armorama (link). This review covers HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 2 (LRM-35025).

Review:

The kit comes in a typical Live Resin hard cardboard box. The box art on the front displays the figure from different angles, while the one on the back shows the figure inside the helicopter cockpit noting the figure fits Kitty Hawk (KH50006) and Academy (2201 and 2217) kits.

Opening the box reveals a zip-lock bag with grey resin pieces. The kit consists of 15 pieces:

- torso,
- legs,
- right arm,
- left arm,
- head w helmet,
- left boot,
- right boot,
- right hand with cyclic stick (2x),
- collective stick,
- equipment pieces (5x).

Closer inspection confirms an impressive casting quality; there are no air bubbles, seam lines or any other kind of imperfections. The details are superbly rendered and delivered in scale. The casting blocks are large but easy to remove as the thin carrier stubs feature minimal contact points with the piece itself. Sharp side cutters and some fine sanding paper should do the trick.

The fit of the pieces is perfect. The rectangular stubs help in optimal placement of the main figure pieces with only minimal putty work needed during assembly. The equipment pieces are supplied separately and the modeler can customize the figure by attaching the pouches to his own preferences. I decided to follow the setup shown on the box art.

The figure wears Army Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU), a two piece flight suit similar to the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) but with some aviator-specific modifications. Over the uniform, the figure wears Air Warrior Primary Survival Gear Carrier (PSGC) system, a modular combat aircrew ensemble, with holster and ammo magazine pouches, as well as couple of other PSGC system elements. On his head the figure sports HGU56/P helmet with Maxillofacial Shield and ANVIS NVG mount. All the details of the uniform and equipment are well defined and accurately delivered.

Once assembled, the two pilots (LRM-35024 & LRM-35025) look very similar, as most of the pieces in the two figure sets are identical. However, the altered left hand, customized gear setup and differently positioned heads provide enough variation so the two pilots can easily be used together.

I can’t comment on fitting the pilot figures to Pave Hawk/Black Hawk models, as I don’t have any of the specified kits in my stash. However, photos from Live Resin website suggest a very good fit to Kitty Hawk’s KH50006 offering. I added these images to the bottom of this review.

Conclusion:

HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 2 (LRM-35025) is an amazing figure kit all around. Well cast and easy to assemble, the figure provides a realistic and accurate representation of modern US Army helo pilot in 1/35 scale. Together with the rest of the helo crew released under Live Resin label, the figure offers a perfect “human touch” to Pave Hawk/Black Hawk 1/35 scale model kits.

About Mario Matijasic (Maki)
FROM: CROATIA HRVATSKA

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
