Hand tools

introduction
each and every day sees the release of more products in 1/48th scale. We've had the vehicles, now come the accessories! This new set from Aber can be used with any 1/48th vehicle to add that bit more visual interest.

the set
Aber have kept this set to one small fret of photo etch. they really do seem to have packed a lot onto that small fret though!

Aside from all the tools that are included, you also get a cantilevered toolbox, of the sort seen anywhere in the world since the beginning of the 1920's.The toolbox really does work, if you're able to work at microscopic scales that is. Typically Aber photo etch needs more than a little skill in order to be able to assemble everything exactly as in their instructions. This toolbox is no exception. If you do it correctly, then it should work............ but whether or not you really want to go to that extreme is another question, since presumably once you have it placed in a diorama, you're not going to want to play with it.......are you? Then save your eyesight and just construct it in the position you're going to display it!

The tools are exceptional. There doesn't seem to be anything missing, and having seen a lot of photo etch tools before, these are certainly the best I've seen yet. The spanners, of which there are the normal two types, open and ring, have legends on their shafts, however, try as I might I couldn't read them..........but they do look good! There are pliers, G clamps, files, screwdrivers, hacksaw, adjustable spanner, and even a pair of eye goggles and a miniature pair of tin snips! Aber give you the option with the handles of most things, of folding two thicknesses to give them a more 3 dimensional appearance, but with a bit of super thin superglue, a completely 3 dimensional appearance can be achieved.

in conclusion
An absolutely beautiful little set from Aber that I'm sure we'll see in all sorts of scenes over the next couple of years. I'm trying to think of way to include them in my next build as I write this! Highly recommended.

SUMMARY
As the range of accessories for 1/48th scale vehicles continues to expand, somebody had to produce a range of hand tools. Leave it to Aber to not only produce the tools, but also produce the lettering on them! A beautiful set from Aber.

Looks good, and I'm sure a few aircraft modelers could use this set also.

For those of you on this side of the pond, a spanner is what we would call a wrench. The two types shown are open end and combination box wrenches.

:-) A wrench is what I feel when I have to go out and have to leave my models! :-) A combination wrench is having to leave my models AND my coffee! ".......throw a wrench in the works......" Naw! It just dosn't have the same ring to it. :-) Vinnie

I have to agree with Vinnie, This is a superb set that I have in my collection, which I eventually intend to go with the Famo and Trailer that I have in my stash. Well worth the outlay. John

Not this set - this is 1/48th scale... [/quote] Ooooops Jim, I must be going blind as my years advance, well I can say as it comes from the same stable as the 1/35 set it is superb and I shall consider buying one as well as I have a number of the 48th kits in my to build list. John

Thanks for the review Vinnie. The layout is the same as their 1/35 scale hand tools set (35A68). This set will find favour with 1/48 scale- aircraft and armour builders alike.
