US Machine Guns in Canvas Covers

Introduction
Weapons rust in the rain and wise soldiers keep them dry. Medium and heavy machine guns fitted to vehicles are not that easy to remove every time it rains so canvas covers are used to wrap them to protect them from the elements This set from resicast provides three canvas covered MGs..

Review
The set comes in a ziplock bag containing the three mgs and two resin pins in a smaller ziplock bag plus a small instruction sheet. There are two differently wrapped .50 cal MGs and one .30 cal mg in the set. The instruction sheet shows how to attach the pins to the bottom of the MGs. which can then sit in the pintle holder. The holes for the pins needed to be reamed out to ensure a good fit. There is no pin for the .30 cal and the instructions say it doesn’t require one but I don’t know how it’s suppose to fit otherwise. I used a piece of resin sprue to fit it to the Sherman turret in the pics.

Although I show them here fitted to a Sherman the Mgs can of course be fitted to any vehicle that carried a .50 cal or a .30 cal.The casting is very good and the strap and seam details are very sharp. The shapes look right and show the awkward creases of the canvas cover. You could spend a lot of time trying to get this effect with putty or PVA soaked tissue paper over a kit MG and I'm happy to use these and keep my MGs for other projects. These neat resin pieces should respond well to painting.

Conclusion
An excellent set from resicast useful to any builder of WW2 and modern vehicles that carry a .50 or .30 cal MG.

SUMMARY
Highs: Casting detail.
Lows: Not clear how the .30 cal is to be mounted without a pin..
Verdict: Another useful acessory set for Allied modelers from Resicast.
