Intro

Besides historical miniatures in various scales , Authors Sculpt has started to release “alternative” miniature kits . Under review here, we have one of the latest kits from the company’s new born Fantasy range. Included are 3 very cute gnome style figures
This kit is marked as a 40 mmscale model, and is sculpted by Igor Karpov.

Packing – First Impression

I really cannot recall easily a “package” offering of 3 different figures together as a kit , but I sincerely find it interesting and convenient idea.
The box is the classic AS book style carton, with nice graphic printed surface and an unpainted version of the constructed kits (the 3 figures) photograph as a box art.
As we open , there are many plastic bags , to include the three kits parts , and they are included in a protection foamy sheet .
The kit travelled, from Russia to Greece, with no problems at all, and al parts were in perfect condition with no damages .

The Kit (what’s in the box)

The kit comes in a light grey color resin material and in total includes 12 parts for the 3 gnomes and their bases .
1st Gnome is a 4 pieces Highlander
2nd Gnome is a 3 pieces Wizard
3d Gnome is a 5 pieces old Scholar

Quality – Detail

All parts were examined carefully , and the first thing that comes in mind is that the casting, is really crisp , accurate , clean and in one term “really nice “ . Even the smallest peebles of the bases are recreated as exact copies of the master sculpture with superb crispness.
No signs of airholes or faulty casting anywhere , and this is really good as it saves you time and good mood !

There is minimal cleaning to do on some of the parts of the kits pieces, but nothing serious , more than a smooth pet with a fresh blade .

This means that with minimal preparation you will be able to prime and start painting.

The poses of the 3 gnomes are standing ones , but their amazing faces and detail of the sculptures will tempt you to paint all 3 of them at once ! expertly detailed stuff, like small books, pipe, candle, wooden sticks, are offering a painters choice for showing off !
Even the wooden floor parts are nicely made with lots of detail .

Painting

These guys are really “free” themes to paint in colors and style that you prefer , so no worries about this . I already have some ideas with these fellas in small vignettes . And it should be much fun, as the intense scale (even though the scale is small) will make painting much of a pleasure

Conclusion

This is one more nice first effort for Author’s Sculpt with a set of Fantasy figures, and especially of a kind (Gnomes) that many modelers love .
Small size, and superb sculpting, lots of detail, endless options for conversions and setups make these guys shouting for paint immediately !

Just get them and paint them !

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...

Cute figures. Looks like a set to just relax with, and have fun practicing techniques, and style.
