British Tanker with Map Case

by: Alan McNeilly [ ALANL ]

Introduction

Resicast have added another fine figure to their 1/35 scale range. This one depicts a British Tanker in Pixie Suit and tankers helmet holding a map case in his left hand.

The figure was sculpted by Pete Morton and the picture of the completed figure painted by Pascal Degarve.

The Figure

Cast in a light grey resin, the figure comes in the standard Resicast plastic zip bag with a card insert showing the completed and painted figure for reference. The figure comes in 5 parts including the body cast as a whole, separate head, right arm and 2 left arms; one holding a map case and one without.

The casting is excellent and I could see no damage or cause for concern with any of the parts. The figure is dressed in the Tankers Pixie Suit. The detail on the body is excellent, the suit has all the correct pockets and straps and a nice touch is that the top map pockets actually look like they contain stuff.

Around the neck is a camouflage scarf, and around the waist the figure wears a 37 pattern belt and flap pistol holster. Brasses are present both front and rear and very nicely done indeed. To complete the body the figure wears a pair of ammo boots. There should be little clean up necessary other than the removal of the small pour stubs on the feet and arms.

The head is very nicely done showing the face of a youngish tanker wearing a tankers helmet with netting. The right arm is designed to show the tanker with his hand in his right pocket, whist for the left arm you get a choice of one holding a map case or one without. The only detail I can see missing here are the small stud fastenings on the cuffs. The map case looks well done and represents the standard 1937 issue case, the strap being looped up the case and behind the left hand.

Conclusion

Another cracking figure from Resicast. The omission of the small stud on the cuffs should be an easy fix. I get the impression of the tab being present, although the detail is faint, on all 3 arms but lacking the small stud to finish it off.

The overall uniform and facial detail is just beautiful, and this figure should paint up extremely well and be of interest to both figure builders and armoured modellers alike. The bulked out map pockets provide a nice touch. The uniform has very realistic folds and creases and this figure will make a fine addition to any scene or armoured vehicle you are building.

Thanks to Resicast for providing this sample for review.
SUMMARY
Highs: A highly detailed figure of a British Tanker that should be very buildable and painted up to produce a first class figure.
Lows: The omission of the small stud on the cuff tabs, but this should be an easy fix.
Verdict: Highly Recommended.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hey Al, Thanks for another detailed review. The figure looks A1 and the alternate arm is a bonus but where are the tanker guys wearing BD or denims ? Maybe it's me but there seems to be tons of resin figures wearing the "pixie" suit but very few full figures wearing warmer weather gear. Plastic figures like MiniArt's look great but nothing beats the detail of resin. That's my rant of the week !! Cheers jjumbo

Hi John, Thanks. Resicast have a good few tankers with BD if you check out their site and as you know there are several by Ultracast too. Not saying a few more wouldn't go amiss and who know now MiniARt have done a set in Denims they might do one in BD too. Cheers Al
