is a new company from St.Petersburg – Russia producing high quality 1/35 scale resin figures , but the owner and sculptor of the company is a familiar and well-known name by many modelers ; Igor Kordyukov
from the old company Imperium
. Drevo entered the market with a Joseph Stalin figure and then they released a series of World War II Russian ladies with flowers and finally they produced two multi figure kits.
Their latest release DRM-35006 Winter Hand-to-Hand Combat,Eastern Front,1941-1943
is a two figure kit with a German and a Russian soldier fighting eachother.
The figure comes well packed in standard Drevo Miniatures dark brown and sand colored 70x100x35 mm cardboard box . The front part of the box shows a photo of the assembled and painted figures which can serve as a simple painting guide. On the other side of the box; website of the company is noted.
The parts are represented with the casting blocks. Each figure is inserted in small plastic zip-lock bags. The main part-body and other parts of every figure like arms and accessories are seperately inserted in extra bags to avoid unexpected damages during transfer.
The figures are sculpted by Igor Kordyukov
and the kit comes in 12 medium grey resin parts. The resin quality is very good and details are very crisp. No air bubbles, excess resin or any casting mistakes on the figure. The junctions between figure parts and casting blocks are well placed and the parts can be easily removed from the blocks with no damage. There will be almost no need for a cleanwork. I can say this is one of the best resin casting figure kit I have ever seen with hard resin quality and flawless and no-mistake cast.
As mentioned before; the kit includes 2 figures; a Russian soldier and a German soldier.
With the massive losses sustained in the early days of World War II, the Russians had to find additional man power for the army, and this had to be done fast. One source was the navy and two types of units were quickly formed ; Naval Infantry Brigades and Naval Rifle Brigades. The men were not specialist marines, and merely ships crews converted to infantry.
Naval Infantry Brigades were used to protect the Russian Naval bases from the invading Germans. The combination of their black naval uniforms and their victorius fighting earned them the nicknames "Black Devils". They retained their navy gear until it wore out but over time the sailors adopted conventional army uniforms.
Naval Rifle Brigades had a more formal organisation. From September 1941 to April 1942 ; the Soviets raised 250 Rifle Brigades, of which 37 were created from naval personnel. They had army command, control, and organisation and equipment, and wore army uniforms from the outset.
The figure represents a Soviet naval soldier Krasnoflotets
and comes in 7 parts. The main part is Body with head and legs
. He wears Soviet Army ear-flapped fleece cap Shapka-ushanka
introduced in 1940 to replace the winter peak cap Shlem/budionovka
. The officer pattern of the fur cap was made of grey astrakhan , the type issued to the soldiers had synthetic pile which they nicknamed it as fish-fur. Fur textile of the cap, the star emblem on front and facial details on the figure are well defined. He wears under-knee length, double breasted black Greatcoat
with wide collars , a row of 5 buttons in front and a cloth half-belt with two buttons on the rear. The cloth folds and pocket details are well represented. Some of the personal gear are sculpted on the figure. He carries a leather belt
with a brass buckle showing the naval emblem. The emblem is very well defined. There are Tsarist pattern leather rifle ammunition pouchs
on both sides and Soviet army standard aluminium water bottle in canvas cover on the left back. Canvas bag-style Veshmeshok
backpack is also cast on the figure. Harness of the backpack, and details of personal gear are well defined. He wears naval black wool trousers and ankle high leather lowboots
Arms : Arms are posed for a melee attack with the stock of his rifle. The five pointed star symbols on the upfolded sleeves are nice touch.
Rifle : He carries a Tokarev, SVT-38 or 40 ,semi-automatic rifle. Hands of the figure are sculpted on the rifle and details of the rifle aree well represented.
Helmet : A Russian Ssh-39 helmet with high rivet placement is given as a seperate part to be assembled over the backpack.
Grenade : He carries a F1 grenade attached to his belt on right front.
Bayonet case : Given as a seperate part to attach on the left side of the belt.
The figure represents a German Soldier in winter clothing and comes in 5 parts. The main part is Body with head and legs. He wears M40 Field sidecap Feldmütze. The national cockade, Eagle emblem and Waffenfarbe chevron on the cap and facial details are well represented. Under the sidecap,he has a German Army tube-shaped woolen balaclava covering his ears. He wears second pattern under-knee length German army uniform greatcoat made in heavy field -grey cloth with a field-grey falling collar. The greatcoat is double breasted with 2 rows of six metal buttons and reached to the mid-calf. It has a cloth half-belt with two buttons in the rear of the waist , a central rear vent hidden in an inverted pleat which reaches from the hem to the waistand has two slanted slash pockets just below the waist with rounded flaps. It also has deep turn-back cuffs and shoulder straps. Cloth folds, collar and front buttons of the greatcoat are well represented. Some of the personal gear are sculpted on the figure. Enlisted men’s leather belt with brass buckle with the emblem, Y-strap suspenders with metal buckles, MP40 triple ammo pouches and M41 Bread bag-Brotbeutel on the right hip are well defined. The breadbag M31 is a simple one compartment haversack which contained the ration of a soldier. Of course next to the bread, it contained a lot of personnel stuff which will be dealt with in another section. Early war types were field grey, while sometimes in 1941 the colour was changed to olive green. As the footgear; he has long German jackboots named Marschstiefel.
Rifle : He carries a MP40 Schmeisser, submachine gun and hands of the figure are sculpted on the weapon. Hands are shown as wearing gloves.
Left arm : It makes a good fit to the shoulder.
