German Tank Crew 1944-45

by: Martin Ramsden [ BRANDYDOGUK ]

This kit builds into four full figures and one half figure. As can be seen from the box art, three of the figures are posed to be placed in the open hatches of an armoured vehicle. One is obviously meant to be placed on the vehicle hull whilst the fifth can be placed away from the vehicle if required.

The Parts
The kit consists of one sprue of parts in grey plastic and one small fret of etched parts. The plastic parts are cleanly molded with little flash evident and faint seams that should scrape off with little trouble. The breakdown of parts is similar to most figures of this scale, namely separate arms and legs, torso, and head. In four of the figures the headwear is a separate part.

The detail is nicely done, not on a par with most resin figures, but good enough. The faces of the figures are rather expressionless, something I've found common with plastic figures in this scale.

The only small items of personal equipment included are a pair of binoculars, a "Schmeisser" smg, four pistol holsters and the earpieces for headsets. Pic 4
These are attached to the etched parts and will enable four of the figures to wear headsets and throat microphones. No wiring is included so the builder will have to obtain some or use stretched sprue.

The instructions
No instruction sheet is included. However on the back of the box are colour drawings of the figures. Each one has part numbers indicated to help assembly, and paint numbers for Gunze Sangyo and Italeri paints. Small close up pictures give camouflage colour placement guides for three camouflage schemes.

Conclusion
A nice set of figures to complement a German tank. While the detail is not as sharp as resin figures it is good enough to show nicely with a bit of dry brushing combined with a wash. As mentioned, the faces are rather bland; I personally would replace them with resin heads if my budget allowed - however, if not, they are usable.
SUMMARY
A nice set of figures to complement a German tank.
