introduction

J's Work is a relatively new company out of China that specializes in making diorama accessories for modelers. The accessories produced are well thought out, carefully crafted, and seem to be just what modelers want.

This new release is part of their Paper Plant series of diorama accessories. Entitled Palm Leaf (1) Large, it is not to be confused with an earlier release entitled Palm Leaf (1). Note the product number, PPA-1025.

palm leaves

The palm leaf set comes on a single, color printed piece of paper and is prepared as live, or fresh cut palm leaves. The color printing is multi-color, with shades of brown, yellow and green gently blended to give a nice varied appearance to the leaves. The paper is fairly sturdy, but the pattern is very delicate in appearance. The attachment points are made by extending leaf sections and when cut will need to be trimmed to match the other individual leaf sections.

There are a total of 10 palm leaves on the paper, four 88mm pieces, three 72mm pieces and three 50mm pieces, providing a nice mix of sizes. There are no instructions with the set, but information is provided at their website, J's Work, giving tips on how to use and prepare the sections.

I cut some of the palm leaves out, and carefully bent them by hand. They can be rubbed with a burnishing tool or other soft edged object, bent, and painted as desired for effect. I think this is an excellent modeling accessory.

J's work products are available exclusively through Lucky Model. This set is listed at $5.99 US, with free shipping.

About Russ Amott (russamotto)

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...

Those look real nice. Will have to compare them to the P.E. ones I have. The color modulation looks fantastic also. As I have 4 U.S.M.C. vignetts to do, I think I'll be P/U a few sets of them. Cheaper the P/E and looks easier to work with, like straight out of the box.
