Introduction

Resicast continue to expand their range of 1/35 scale British/Commonwealth figures. This is more preview than a review as this figure is not yet available but due for release soon.

The figure was sculpted by Gerard Detroeye and represents a standing British or Commonwealth Army Medic.

The figure

The figure comes packed in the standard Resicast format for small items, two double zip plastic bags with a paper insert. Cast in a light great resin, the figure was free from and damage or cause for concern.

The figure depicts a standing soldier holding an upright stretcher. The figure is cased as a whole with only the head and associated equipment to add. This comes in the form of a small back pack, medical haversack, water bottle, respirator haversack and small digging tool. Two frets of feet are provided for the stretcher so plenty of spares if one goes to the carpet monster!

The figure is dressed in Battle dress serge 1940 pattern, the uniform detail looks excellent. Over the battle dress the figure wears a skeleton set of webbing in the form of 37 pattern belt and shoulder straps. Front and rear brasses are evident and of good quality. The stretcher comes molded across the figure and to this you need to add 4 small U shaped feet. Anklets and ammo boots complete the main body and the figure has nice natural folds and creases in the uniform. On the left arm is an arm band.

The head has good sharp facial detail and wears a plain Mk II helmet. The associated equipment is of good order and fits the figure well.

Standing at approximately 44mm heel to shoulder the figure has good body proportions and fits the 1/35 scale range well.

Conclusion

This is another welcome first for Resicast and a welcome addition to their range of Infantry figures. The overall detail is excellent and the only thing I changed was the soldiers head as I wanted one with a camouflage helmet.

I cannot say whether or not the figure will come with red cross decals for the arm band and medical haversack but I used some from their UK Medical Supplies set No 35.2338.

A word of caution, as the stretcher comes molded to the figure and the top carrying handles are quite thin, not dropping the figure, especially on it’s head would be helpful!!! Fortunately in my case I was able to correct this blunder by using a set of handles from the UK Medical Supplies set, but isn’t that just Murphy’s Law.

Medical aid was provided at both Unit Level and by the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). Options should therefore exist to finish the figure as you see fit, although the absence of any ammo pouches on the webbing probably leans towards an RAMC soldier and would also tend to point to the fact the figure is a Medic and not just a stretcher bearer. In my case I chose to mark the figure as belonging to the East Lancashire Regiment.

This is another cracking figure for the Resicast Range and a long overdue addition in their basic Infantry selection. I do hope we see one or two more British medical type personnel as this is an under represented area.

Additional Information

The production figure will come with two heads one with a Mk II helmet and one with a Mk III helmet. I have added some additional pictures of the completed figure just received from Resicast.
