introduction

The Jackal (4x4) and the Coyote (6x6) were developed by Supacat for the British Armed Forces as part of the Highly Mobile Transport(HMT) family. The Ministry of Defence in Great Britain realized the need of a new type of vehicle due to experiences in Afghanistan. The vehicles are currently serving with the British military in Afghanistan.

the book

Tankograd has now released a book documenting these vehicles through a great description of the development and great photographs of the vehicle in theatre. The book is soft covered and printed on glossy paper. The text is printed in both German and English, in a two columns. Photograph descriptions are stacked, with German text on top

The text portion provides a great description of the requirement and development of the Jackal and Coyote. It steps through the requirement of a vehicle for use in the Afghan theatre, and the development steps from a private funded program to the development of a military vehicle meeting the needs of the British military. It also describes the vehicles use and configurations.

The images of the photographs really make the book. The majority of the photographs were taken in the Hemutt district of Afghanistan. The photograph are clear and sharp, really showcasing the vehicles. There are also detail photographs of some of the different components of the vehicles, perfect for modellers who wish to include all the details.

The book includes pictures of the prototype vehicles, the HMT400 and HMT600. Photographs of the Jackal include the variants 1, 2, and 2A in separate sections, with the Coyote in its own section as well.

Overall this is an excellent reference book for British Armed Vehicles fans. The great photographs and descriptions make this book a must have as a reference book for AFV fans and/or modelers.
