AFV Club has sent Armorama a pre-production copy of their Schwimmwagen 128 in 1/35th scale. This kit was not even supplied with instructions, and for that matter packaged in a clear plastic bag, so I am limited in what information I can provide you all with.
What I have done is to share with you some pictures that I hope helps you see just what level of detail is included in this small amphibian. The kit as supplied to me is moulded in a very dark-grey plastic which can make it difficult to see the included detail with the naked eye.
The moulding quality is good for the most part, with the exception of a partially mis-moulded wheel; but remember this is a pre-production kit. While on the subject of the wheels, I believe that the long lengths of injection waste will be removed on production models. I do not have references to-hand to check the accuracy at this time, but it does look right.

Looking forward to that kit. For some reason I thought they would include two types of tyres, but I can kitbash with a Tamiya kit no problem!

I was told by AFV Club that the kit will be ready soon but the decals are not printed yet so I am unsure how someone hass it for sale already. Also please remember this is pre production and it may have the other tyres when released proper.
Impossible. The Typ 128 and the Typ 166 (the version Tamiya produces) aren't the same vehicle, sizewise (128 was longer) and , in some respects, structurally.
Ah, I'm glad Joseph cleared that up - I was thinking "128 - shouldn't that read 166?" So was the 128 the initial type before full production in Feb 1942? How widespread was this specific type in use?

Initial production started in 1941. Production was very limited. It's long wheelbase caused stability problems; and, there was the problem of welds cracking, causing the Typ 128 to leak like a sieve. Not what one looks for in an amphibious vehicle. The development of the Typ 166 also started in the same year, with full production beginning in late 1942.
