I'd like to submit this idea for a future campaign, maybe mid 2010. Cruise'n for a Bruise'n You can do any light or heavy cruiser from any fleet or era and any scale. The only conditions are that you model it sometime during its last year, preferable last month, of existance and that historically had to of been sunk in battle, hence the bruise'n part.  What do you think? |

I have a couple that qualify, either the 1:700 Fujimi IJN Chikuma, or if I have the time and feel brave, I can try the Hasegawa 1:700 IJN Nachi ("High grade, full hull version), and follow Dade's great build blog on that kit. I am in in either case |

Well, I have been thinking about this one since I saw the first post. SO, with that said I like it. Not only are curisers unique ships, but we have to pick one that wasn't lucky in war.  |

It looks like all I've got that would qualify is my hybrid Mogami. My Takao is '42 and I think incoming Myoko is the same. SO I'll wait and do the Mogami until then
wait a minute. THe Graf Spee, that qualifies as a cruiser doesn't it? It only had 6 11 inchers bigger than the standard 8 inch but much smaller than the 14 to 16 of a attlecruiser / battleship. |

The year you model the cruiser in is not that important, I would of preferred late fits but early fits are acceptable. Also any era is accepted not just WWII stuff. What is important is that they were sunk by an enemy navy while being manned by the ownning country's men. Scuttling a ship is a gray area but I will accept it if it was scuttled because the navy did not think they could fight or save the ship againt a warring navy. An Admiral Graf Spee is approved. I am afraid that a Moyko or Takao is not accepted. Though damaged in battle, both survived the War to be used as British target practice. I would accept a Maya or Nachi though. Also any cruisers that were sunk during the Pearl Harbor raid will also be accepted. |

Kind of like running on the shoals, Being hit by a member of your Navy and sunk be allowed, Etc? There are some great historical examples of that happening. Also would the USS Maine qualify? This campaign is going to be harder than I thought. So many gray areas. Sorry but I'm going to have to say no to the natural event/Act of God sinkings. Only ships sunk by war and man made devices are allowed. I would allow the pre-drednought USS Maine though some think it was sunk by a spanish mine. |

Oops, I missed the part about having been sunk in battle. I was thinking the San Fran after the Battle of Guadalcanal, but she survived. Guess it will have to be the Gorizia before being taken out by a Chariot. |

For myself, I'm going to be doing an IJN Tama. I just read the history on wikipedia and was shocked to hear how fast it sunk and that all hands were lost. Now I just got to find the kit..... |

Ok, I officially enlisted. I will probably do the SeaWay/Fujimi 1:700 IJN Chikuma, the second Tone class Hvy cruiser. Interesting history, starting her career at Pearl Harbor and participating in most of the salient naval battles of the PacWar. Took a "bruising" in the Battle of Santa Cruz and was finally sunk by Avengers at Leyte Gulf.  |

I joined in, too, but am not yet certain about the topic. ... SMS Dresden, ... SMS Scharnhrost and Gneisenau ... SMS Emden, ... HMAS Sydney. A total of 11 light, armoured and battlecruisers on both sides of the Jutland Battle were lost. Plenty of subjects to choose from...
I have hesiated quite some time, because the campaign is (IMHO) quite short at 6 months, which is quite short for me. Anyway, I'll try!
