Hi Gang,
I was thinking of buying Revell`s re-release of the Hawk missile battery and this set me to thinking what kind of vehicle was used to tow it ?.
I`d like to know so i could do a mini diorama of one in action with attendent vehicles in the background.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Something to take into consideration is that the old Revell kit is 1/40 scale. Most military models produced now are 1/35. That's a pretty significant difference in scale.

Correction; I THINK that it is 1/40.
Sorry about that.

Scale aside, I think it was towed by the old M800 series 5 ton. You could use the AFV M35 duce and with some scratch work make it a 5 ton.

Rounds Complete!!

The M800 series trucks are 5tonner. To buil one there is 3 possobilities :

-heavy scrath work, for this you need an AFV M35, a M923 Italrei kits ,the excellent articles from Dave/ Animal (here on Armorama) and lot of pains....

-conversion resin kit with a M923 Italeri kit and a Real Model M800 cab conversion

-total resin kit from Realmodel, more expensive but more easy.

I used to be an IHAWK Radar creweman. The launchers were towed by 5 ton long beds, and the radars were towed by 2 1/2 ton trucks. IIRC any Viet Nam era versions of those trucks would be good up until the Army replaced IHAWK and Nike Herc with Patriot in the mid 80s.

That's the one! There was no tarp and most of the launcher prime movers had racks for three missle reloads.
