I'm curently building Dragons kit #6290, and I'm as the topic says a little confused about how the suspension goes together. to be exact where part A9 is supposed to be attached. My guess from the rather messy instructions is somewhere on parts A2, but then they are in the way for the wheels.
So, if anyone has build this kit or any of the related kits and can enlighten me I would be really glad!

Thomas, I don't have that particular kits instructions, but I'm pretty sure they're all the same, so here goes. Part A9 (springs) mount on the small pin on A13/16. A2 also mounts on A13/16. I'll see if I can find a pic. |
On the bench:
DML Grille M
Thanks Andrzej ------------>

The instructions are clear on how to mount A2 on A13/16, but I have no small pin on my A13, just a hole, that fits on the pin on the hull. |

My bad, the pin should be on the hull itself, which fits the hole on A13/16 and on the back side of A9.

Still not any clearer too wether A9 should be attached to A2 in any way, but thanks anyway. |

I just realized that I was very unclear about one thing in my question (must be because it's 5 am and I have been awake all night...).
Should part A9 be glued to just the hull, or the hull and part A2 or just to A2. Guess it's a large laps in my knowledge in how the suspension worked... |

Hi Thomas, Good question, I've the same kit and only have completed and mostly painted the interior. So, I just did a quick dryfit to see what you were up to. This is what I'm going to do on mine. First I'm going to glue the A13 (A16) to the hull, then glue A9 or A23 to A13/16's making sure that ALL leaf springs are level to each other. Then glue the A2's to A13/16's and the leaf spring ends once again making sure they are level to each other. Once again this is how I am going to do it. I don't know if this right or not. There's a lot of fun in this little package, ENJOY !!! Tom |

The DML instructions neglect to tell you a very important thing...you can't assemble the units without actually also mounting the bases to the hull for them to work properly. This is what you end up with when you do everything prior to mounting to the hull: And this is how it looks after you install everything to the hull: You do have to be careful in how you position the leaf spring as that will ultimately determine the final resting place of the road wheels and in turn the overall alignment of the suspension. I chose not to glue the suspension arms to the leaf spring until after the road wheels were painted and installed to avoid any problems in that department. HTH! |
