Anyone interested in a campaign dedicated exclusively to the Sd Kfz251 Half-track in all it's variants?

Howdy..

Depending on the time frame and length of campaign I might be interested, I have about 7 or 8 Dragon kits of the 251 in my stash and wouldn't mind building one.

I'd also vote for later in 2014, just my 2 cents worth.

I would be interested if the time frame was right. it's not like I would have to go out and buy a kit for the campaign!

Yes, hoping that you we could include some that are barely started but if not I still would be willing.

Well looking at the responses so far seems y'all have two concerns
1. Start around Easter 2014--I can agree to that, I have enough on my bench tight now to fill my time till then. Does everyone else agree to start April 20, 2014?

2. Add the little brother, the 250--
While this expands the pool of potential members it also opens the door to the question,
"well why not ALL German Halftracks?"
IMHO this dilutes the point of the campaign focusing on the 251.
But if y’all like then I can agree to add the 250.

But with that in mind I don’t plan on allowing any of the Sd Kfz 3, 6, 7, 10 11, FAMO Maultier or SWS variants.

Subjects will have to be derived from the 250 or 251 as listed in Chamberlain & Doyle’s
Encyclopedia Of German Tanks Of World War Two
Or Spielberger’s Halftracked Vehicles of the German Army 1909-1945
For those who don’t have either of those references (I only have the first but the other is on my X-mas list) May I suggest this website which impresses me with it's wealth of info on 251 variants.
http://www.pietvanhees.nl/251/sitemap.htm

Does anyone have a similar site for the 250?

Listing those three references I’m not trying to be bossy. More, as I said before, trying to focus the campaign while communicating to everyone the boundaries.

Beyond that I would like to apply the standard rules:
Must not be more that 30% started before opening date of April 20, 2014
Can be OOB or scratch built. After market kits, PE, Tracks ETC are up to the Builder.
Any Variant of the Sd Kfz 250 or 251 that was used during World War Two is approved.
No What if Designs but prototypes and field modifications will be allowed if you can provide at least one (clear) photo of the original vehicle
Dioramas are up to each Individual if you want it make it.
Any scale is good
A start Photo must be submitted at and at least one completed build photo upon completion.
In progress build photos are up to each individual builder but are highly encouraged
Have Fun with the Build

What do y'all think?

This sounds like a good campaign. As it is I have a few I think in the stash. I am joining, need to finish a few that are in progress and some do start soon. Have not built one yet. Guess this is a good time to do so.

I think I'll crawl into this one with a Dragon 251/17 (either one of the 2 2cm versions could be a do for me), a Dragon 251/22 PaKwagen, or maybe a Dragon 250/9 Aufklarungs version. Heck - a Dragon 250/11? with that s.PzBsch 41 gun could be the kit!

I have many many more Dragon 250 and 251 kits in my stash than ever I have built Time indeed to get one out and do it! Specially as this will be something for 2014!

Bob

PS: @J.Poitras;

Adding in the 250 series with the 251 series would make a lot of modeling sense, I think - as these were both the armored series and were pretty parallel in what was offered - i.e., there were straight APC, commo, 37mm platoon-leader, mortar carriers, and both series shared a common design and construction (armored hull on top of an available chassis). All of those other types were the (mostly) non-armored, "softskin" versions. Just my opinion, of course!

alright we have an official campaign starting April 2014.

Time to work on a design for the campaign badge.
As these are typically very small, I figure it needs to keep simple.

I'm thinking of a silhouette of a 251, perhaps a /20, in black with a colored #251 over it.

Anyone with drawing talent?

Hey J.

I've made a couple of ribbons here and there. So I'll give it a try.

Here is a first try. Outline of a 251 with the numbers 251 & 250 at either side .. black outline red inside, on a dark yellow base.. numbers are not really readable unless you kinda know what your looking at..

here is a 2nd variation on the theme

3rd Variation no numbers larger vehicle.

Good Stuff!

I vote for number 1, as it captures both central subject-series in consideration.

Just checking through what I have that could be built for this campaign...

btw I have quite an interest in Half Tracks. One of the more Interesting vehicles in WWII that advances in automotive tech made obsolete by the end of the war.

lets see.. thinking about doing one of these...

Dragon kits.

251/1 D
251/16 C Flammpanzerwagen
251/22 Ausf.D Mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen für 7.5cm PaK40 (L46) (what a mouthful)

251 D 3 in 1 kit
251/1 SPW
251/9 7.5cm
251/1 "Falke" IR Vehicle

251/1 C 3 in 1 kit
251/7 Pioneerpanzerwagon
251/1 w/sMG
251/10 w/3.7cm PaK

250/1 Le SPW Alte
250/11 le SPW w/Panzerbuchse 41
250/5 NEU le Beob.Pz.Wg.

Think thats it. Might have another 1 or 2 stashed somewhere.. but this gives me a lot to think about..

Delbert

have enlisted - think the timeframe works for me to do SD.KFZ222 for the armoured car campaign, a StuG Iv for StuG II campaign and then get something for this - stash doesn't have a single 251 in so will keep my eyes peeled
