Aloha everyone!!! In my readings online I've come across article after article explaining how outlying territories from the former Soviet area are receiving the newer equipment and conversely the homefront Russian units are receiving the old ones. What gives? Can someone please tell me why this disparity between units exist? Along with this question is seeing the economic shape of Russia would it be possible to see the export version being added to Russian units for use?

Thank You in Advance

What new tanks are former satellite nations receiving? A few have T-80's, old T-72's, old T-64's etc. Doesn't someone have the export T-90(besides India)? The export T-90 is inferior to the one the Russians use. I think Russia is holding off getting anything else new until the Armata design is unveiled next year. That will be the basis for all new MBT, IFV, SPG etc. There's no reason to invest further in the ancient T-72 hull any longer.

Ah…makes sense. I guess what I was referring to was actually Russian security forces in Chechnya. There's reports that a unit of T-90A's are stationed there. It just mystified me that they would field T-90's there but use T-64's, T-80's and older T-72 defending the homefront. I don't know maybe just thinking like a "modeller" lol

What you are referring to most likely is front-line or "cahnce to see active use" units are getting them. Field testing, basically. And putting your best foot forward.

You'd be surprised how many nations are retaining older tanks and simply making upgrades. I follow a lot developments with regards to the Armenian Army (part of the former USSR). They have nearly nothing but T-72B MBTs (see below), and many in the country loudly wonder why Armenia has not purchased newer T-80s or T-90s, especially since it has a military alliance with Russia.

Several dozen T-72s have been earmarked to be upgraded by Poland over the next two years.
