Finally finished Ersatz M10 with some corrections/additions:

It looks awesome. But you I think you should add areas where he paint has come off to reveal the original German colours.

Very nice! I build 1/48 armor usually and I just started a 1/72 project. I know how hard it is to get that level of detail out of such a small project.

I dont believe German colours would show as the vehicle had thin plate added to it.

The only extra plating was thin sheet metal around the turret and mantlet, and on the front and rear. I painted mine mint condition - just out of the paint shop. No point in making it look worn or knocked out, or in a dio; as all hatches are molded shut! And it was more an exercise in doing corrections, and painting. I wasn't even going to finish it as it's not Dragon at their best, but I needed the exercise.

Very nice to see you finally display some of your work in the Braille Forum. The Ersatz M10 looks very good and I think the paint job is very well done. For an otherwise plain vehicle, it gives the model some life! I’ve seen and built a few Dragon Panthers and they all have an issue with the front tracks being canted to one side or the other and it appears that this model is no exception. The straight parts of the track links aren’t parallel to the surface that the tank sits on. Other than that, the build looks very good and thanks for sharing.

This model is looking pretty sharp considering what you had to work with (Dragon kit). It could be a real show stopper.

I suspect that may be because the attachment points for the drive gear is too small or too weak, and the tension of the track pulls it back and to the side. I've also had the same problem with any Panther I've built.

I think you did a very good job on your rendition. I like the weathered paint and how well you managed to blend in the decals so there not so stark against the darker base color.

Leo, I’ve run into this issue of having canted rear idlers or drive wheels or both on the same kit, usually due to having a tight set of tracks. So here is what I do to remedy this problem.


I usually apply a small drop of super glue at the attachment points after the glue has had some time to cure to keep the wheels set in place. Hope this will help you on future builds?

Thanks for the info. I was planning to rip off the sprockets and reinforce them with CA and metal rod - a single rod like an old-time metal axle going right through the chassis. Maybe overkill, but that'll do it! BTW; good looking Tiger happening there. I see you've added some nice scratch work!

I was going to say, "In spite of everything Dragon still make the best injected plastic 1/72 kits", but in view of the announced Flyhawk FT's and Pz l kits, Flyhawk's quality just sweeps away Dragon's recent offerings!
