Hello everyone!

I'm starting this thread for develop of my project to creation of models for printing on 3D printer. Many of the modelers know my previous works, I am the single author of the 3D models, which produce Live-Resin, release 1-7, including figures and combat robot Secutor.
Now I present of my own project - Samofalov prototyping models. This 3D printed models, which able on the www.shapeways.com/shops/samofmodels
I begin with a sets for conversion Tamiya M1025 HUMVEE 1/35 scale set into GMV Dumvee version.
I'm thanks to the community for a discussion of my models in other topics of this forum. Your comments helps me in creating new models. I also hope on feedback from the community on what needs to see next or how product looks at the drawing stage.
Lets go

Very nice, could end up very expensive for a whole vehicle, but I've been down that route for M32 stuff.

This is just awesome! Although I've got such GMV version done, I'll definitelly buy some of this stuff.

If I may, I'll write some comments:

- Your renders above show a typical M1113 GMV-S - an US Army Special Forces vehicle, except this front bumper with bullbar. I've never seen such bumper mounted on M1113 GMV-S, only on GMVs based on M1165 Humvee version (MARSOC's M1165 GMV-M, Navy's M1165 GMV-N, USAF's M1165 GMV-ST or Army's SOF M1165A1 Special Ops GMV). This bumper is Your bull's eye shot - a possibility of using is very wide - many Dumvees ;

- a dashboard is right only for M1151/M1152/M1165/M1167 Humvee versions, not for M1025, M1113 etc. And a front window frame is different in Dumvees based on M1165 than in ones based on M1025/M1113;

- also a lower winch guard from set SPM-35-001 is right only for M1151/M1152/M1165/M1167 Humvee versions.

Of course this is not a criticism, only some tips for those, who wants to build a Humvee with Your excellent sets And not only a GMV one - many of these sets can be used for an usual HMMWV.

Now waiting to see a real elements, not only renders

Very intreastening things you are selling...
Is the the truck led headlights you have with clear lenses ?

Maybe you can do the new lights they have on the roof on some cougar mrap...

Christophe, for the price of sets of parts Humvee, it's parts of a large volume of 4-7cm 3, high consumption of plastic for printing. But similar resin parts will cost as or more. And resin parts are always have distorted geometry, and less durable. Also, the technology will be improved and the cost of printing will be reduced.

C_JACQUEMONT, about clear lenses of truck led headlights, Shapeways prints models in semi transparent plastic. The thickness of the lens 0,4-0,46 mm at different scales. In this, transparency of the parts due to the small thickness is enough. But still semi transparent plastic. To increase transparency, you can try a little polish the outer surface of the lens with a cottonwool and scouring powder (Henkel) or silk velvet fabric as do the jewelers. But be careful with the pressure.

Here's information about the materials from the shapeways.com
Frosted Ultra Detail and Frosted Extreme Detail are very similar materials, both printed using the same base resin and printer, but with different resolution settings. With 29 micron layers, Frosted Ultra Detail offers very high detail and is ideal for miniatures and figurines which will be finished and painted. With 16 micron layers, Frosted Extreme Detail offers the highest detail of any of the materials we offer and can be used for the most detailed miniatures, and models like molds and mold masters where very smooth surface finish is critical.
Frosted Ultra Detail and Frosted Extreme Detail are both made of a UV cured acrylic polymer. While both offer high resolution, Frosted Extreme Detail uses a 16 micron layer height to produce incredibly fine features, making it a great choice for miniatures, model trains, and products with very fine embossed or engraved details. Both materials are well suited for painting, and are relatively brittle, especially when features are thin. The material is heat resistant up to 80°C / 176°F degrees.
http://www.shapeways.com/materials/frosted-detail-plastic

It is also an interesting topic for a similar issue.
https://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/news/18808

And your question on the headlights on the roof on some cougar mrap. Please give me more information: how to call these lights and it will be nice to get basic dimensions if it is possible. And maybe images from different views.

Kubisz, any suggestions and criticism are welcome:)).
Parts for Humvee divided into different sets, and can be ordered only the necessary ones. Later I will do Ibistek version of the bumper, so modellers can complete any combination. Some elements, such as the rear shield panel with spatial frame, this is my version of the tuning GMV. Such in my view more spectacular, but similar pieces can be manufactured in a workshop for real vehicles. Standard options usually looks a bit boring and unreliable. I also read about the GMV that each sample is almost unique and different from others, as a models of Rolls-Royce in the 60s. For a good mechanics team are not difficult to build the GMV from any of the components of different variants of the Humvee. Theoretically, any combinations is possible: bumpers, turrets and other elements. Here are pictures of different versions of an assembly.

There is one from Adler Model if you can find it nowadays.

Got one, was quite inexpensive too.

Christophe, where did You buy this engine and how much did You pay, if I may ask? The price on Adler's site says 0.00...

The Humvee engine would be great, if it is a whole engine block. Old (CMK and CAM Design) and Adler's ones are only partial.

Ibis Tek Light Bar - this would be fine:
http://www.ibistek.com/product/detail/auxiliary_lights
but another headlights? What for? There are many variants available (Bronco makes 3 types, now we have also these announced by SPM).

Very, very interesting. The way you designed Humvee sets for Live Resin, it was immediately clear new GMV conversion sets will be available.

I'm just wondering about 3D printed parts. How much are the printing lines visible and how much of a surface preparation is needed for those parts, before painting?

Cheers,
Mario

Hello everyone!

I'm starting this thread for develop of my project to creation of models for printing on 3D printer.

Had a question on my Shapeway order as I got this...

"
Thanks again for placing an order with Shapeways. Unfortunately, we are unable to manufacture one of the products in order.

Given the nature of 3D printing, every now and then we catch designs that are too fragile to create in certain materials. Though we do our best to identify these issues as early as possible, some are only found during the manufacturing process.
• You will not be charged for the following:
1x 1/35 SPM-35-001 HMMWV front grill panel in Frosted Ultra Detail

You can view the status of your payment on your Order Status Page.

We've already notified the designer that your product could not be manufactured, and you can also contact them using the link above. They can help resolve the issues found during the manufacturing process."

Did I order this incorrectly? Wrong material? Need best effort words or something else? Thanks!

Roger, maybe I wasn't precise enough. I meant that we had got - I guess - 6 different types of spotlights (Bronco, PAM and new SPM sets). And we don't need the 7th one. What we need is something which is unavailable on the market. Or available, but only in bigger sets. For example:
- Ibis Tek Light Bar (mentioned above),
- Duke RC-IED steering box,
- Chameleon RC-IED steering box,
- Symphony RC-IED steering box,
- small Symphony antennas,
- engine hood mounted tool rack,
- Gypsy Racks (expecially for jerry cans, mounted on Humvee's tailgate),
- conversion set for M1116 (it's only rear cargo area cover),
- conversion set for M1152 (it could be only new roof, rear wall and rear half-doors),
- conversion set for M1165 CBC (Cargo Bed Cover),
- and last but not least: elements for conversions to M1165 GMV-M and M1165 GMV-N (photos above).
Of course it's only my wish (or dreams), but I hope I'm not alone

Hi Guys,
you are not the only one with these wishes Kuba. These conversion sets would be great. M1152 and M1165 would be fantastic.
Conversion sets for Swiss LAV Pirahna Radschützenpanzer 93 and Kdo Radschützenpanzer, the list could be endless....

Cheers Chris

amoz02t, thank you for your order! Set SPM-35-001 now available, corrected and loaded into a workable version. Sorry for the delay, but when I was loaded the first file, checker showed no problems.
The Shapeways has good feedback, I was informed about the problem and they shows me a portion of the model for the correctives:
Given the nature of 3D printing, every now and then we catch designs that are too fragile to create in certain materials. Though we do our best to identify these issues as early as possible, some are only found during the manufacturing process.

I try to take model ideally, but the technique is sometimes "speaks" it can not be printed, make the most thickness In any case, all possible an amendments I'm will be makes in the short terms.

rogerjo1, I'll takes in the plans of remote controlled search lights, my mail I wrote to you. If anyone can tell the size of the basic range of that lights, it will be nice.

Kubisz, Humvees is my favorite theme. If the existing models for the conversions will be in demand, then I will continue the theme Humvee. Models M1165 GMV-M (MARSOC) and M1165 GMV-N (Navy Seals) can be built on the basis of sets of Bronco.
Henkp, also engines, if the direction will be successful, then why not.

Mario, before starting the project, I studied the question of success of this type of manufacturing such a 3D printing on Shapeways. Until recently the Shapeways was make 3D printing from material Frosted Detail Plastics, with a sufficiently large thickness of layer. The result was good, but not too good. However, many modelers ordered parts for vehicles, tanks and other. But the technology is evolving and now available print materials Frosted Ultra Detail with 29 micron layers and Frosted Extreme Detail (more expensive) uses a 16 micron layer height to produce incredibly fine features.
The question of preparation 3D printed parts for painting was discussed in one of the topics:
https://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/news/18808
Also an interesting review of the project ETS35
https://www.facebook.com/Ets35

Colleagues, all your wishes about the models, I take note of, but just can not do that all together, but I try it step by step

Thank you Peter. I got your note also. No problems. I have already resubmitted my order for the HUMVEE offering. Many thanks for your efforts and fast reply.

The Boomerang III BBN Technologies gunfire anti sniper locator system ready for ordering on Shapeways:
http://www.shapeways.com/product/8ZWGNMSPP/1-35-spm-35-017-boomerang-iii-bbn?li=shop-results&optionId=56686639

Don't forget at the first printing it is possible cancellation by the Shapeways of the 3D printing of the order :
"Given the nature of 3D printing, every now and then we catch designs that are too fragile to create in certain materials. Though we do our best to identify these issues as early as possible, some are only found during the manufacturing process."
In that case they will sent me a notice and I troubleshoot it a period of 1-2 days. I try to give the most realistic models, but sometimes necessary to increase the thickness of some of the details, by the the process conditions. Not ruled out the a second case to cancel printing of the same model. This means that the thickness of the problematic details are still not enough. Such method helps me to identify the boundaries of technological capabilities of printers. But in any case, all the problems will be addressed in the short term. Thank you for the insight!:-H

Kubisz, orders are made and soon I hope to get feedback from modelers. I hope all good, but my opinion is that judgment of concerned person. Let's wait the impression to independent buyers, it's the most valuable. Then you can make a judgment about the technology and quality of product. I hope the current level of printing is developed enough for the construction of scale models. If not, I think it, and anyway its good attempt. If yes, so, then there will be many different new models
