I have been eyeballing this 1/35 Spojna kit of the 7TP light tank for some time. The kit is a bit on the basic side and some parts could use some help with AM stuff. Still, it looks pretty neat and promises to be fun to build.

What's stoppin me? Nuttin other than I am really enjoying these campaigns and have been a lot more productive with the deadline gently egging me on when I would rather grab a beer, turn on the boob tube and watch my Angels loose another baseball game.

So – how about a campaign dedicated to the opening of WW2, Poland in 1939. While I'm thinking of building a tank, how about opening it up to anything that crawls on tracks, rolls on roads or railroads, swims in the water or flies through the air?

Models from could be from any combatant in any scale but must have the markings used in the Polish campaign of 1939 rather than those that might have been used earlier or later. This would be for models built for this campaign with initial pictures showing the unstarted kit and the newspaper/mobile phone or other proof of date. Starting this Fall and ending next Spring? The model would need to be built and painted before the gong to get the ribbon.

For that ribbon, howbout the Polish flag with 1939 superimposed on it . . .

Would anyone be interested in joining such a campaign? Would anyone care to lead it? I have never lead one before but would be willing to do it myself if I had some guidance on some of the technical stuff.

As I recall from the tutorial, we need 10 participants to proceed. Hopefully we will get a few more.

In addition to the Polish and German vehicles we have all the Soviet ones too. Things like the T-28 & the T-35 plus the light tanks like the BTs and even the T-26s. Armored cars, truck, field guns, lots to play with.

I'd be up for it as I'm sure I can find something German to build. I've got a lot of early war infantry to build at some point and a Tristar Panzer IV Ausf D that would fit in. Oddly enough I built Tamiyas Panzer II yesterday for entertainment. Really easy kit to build and not much detail but enjoyable so I may do one of those again just for the fun of it. I don't know a lot about the Polish Campaign so it'll be a learning curve for me. Does anyone make any Polish figures?

I'd be interested to join. With several Polish kits from Mirage-Hobby I'll definitely find something to build

Does anyone make any Polish figures?

Karl,
Polish company TORO Model has some resin figures in their offer. Look for "September 1939" series.
Scibor Monstrous Miniatures does some tank crew figures as well --> here's link to their site Scibor figures.
There was also a company named Adalbertus who made some interesting figures (e.g. squad of Polish AT Rifle Wz.35), but I don't know if they're still making them. Some assortment is still available from the ArmaHobby Shop

If you want, Polish on-line hobby store Martola has most of the Scibor & TORO figures in their offer.

Hope that helps a little.
Cheers,
Radek

Hello everyone,
I'd like to join, too. Just bought a Pz IV Ausf. B - fits perfectly to a '39 Poland theme...
cheers,
Zsolt

I envision this campaign going well into 2017, possibly June? From what I understand from my reading of the tutorial, the campaign must be submitted with our preferred dates which will be approved or altered depending on the scheduling needs of other campaigns. It starts with what we would like to see.

I think figures would be great. I have never tried doing any as my eyes are not nearly good enough for such detail but I sure enjoy seeing the work of others.

There are many German subjects that would fit right in. Panzers I, II, III, IV, the 38T, armored cars, half tracks, trucks, artillery pieces and plenty more would fit right in.

The 7TP had both single & twin turret versions. I have in mind the single turret version but just ordered the other one. BTW, The Duel series has a 7TP vs Panzer II book out, well worth reading to gain a better insight into the vehicles and the situation they operated in.

The cheapo Zvezda kit of the BA-10 armoured car kinda catches my eye. I would definitely love to build some early war stuff as a respite from all the late war and what-if afvs that I've been building lately.

I have a Mirage T-26/BT that would fit the bill (single turret, so maybe Paul won't mind, let me know if you prefer me to choose another)...it would be my first stab at individual track links (Yikes, on a Mirage, nonetheless, LOL)...but I'll live on the edge!

I would be delighted to have others build the same model I have in mind. My skills are modest and I look forward to seeing how others tackle the kit. More than that, there are only a limited number of kits of 1939 Polish subjects. What we lack in depth we can make up in breadth. As they say, "the more the merrier."

Bryan - I too have that kit and eyeball it from time to time thing how neat it might look. I look forward to seeing what you make of it.

I want in on this. I can't pass up the opportunity to make a tribute to the Polish balloon battalions.

I'm probably in. I'm thinking something from the Soviet side just because the Soviet involvement often seems overshadowed. But who knows what will happen by start time.

It looks like enough of us are interested to make this proposed campaign fly. I will go ahead and apply to make it official. Here are the distilled rules I will propose:

Poland 1939 is a campaign dedicated to the opening of WW2, the battle for Poland in 1939. All modeling subjects would be included which includes anything that crawls on tracks, rolls on roads or railroads, swims in the water or flies through the air. Figures & dioramas are welcomed.

Rules:

A photo of the final build MUST appear in the campaign gallery to qualify for a ribbon.

Kits should not be started before this campaign, please post a photo showing the unbuilt kit and some sort of dating device..

One build - one campaign, models should be built for this campaign alone.

The model would need to be built and painted before the gong to get the ribbon.

Modelers of all skill levels are welcomed.

Please post in-progress photos, we want to enjoy your build with you.

Starting Oct 1, 2016, Ending June 1, 2017

Models from could be from any combatant in any scale but must have the markings used in the Polish campaign of 1939 rather than those that might have been used earlier or later.

Questions? Comments?

Seeing that we have no objections nor modifications to the Poland 1939 campaign as proposed, I went ahead and applied for official status. We should know within two weeks if we will be approved.

While we are waiting, I'm going to start getting the kit, reference material and aftermarket items rounded up.

Nothing wrong with that! We still have not been approved yet and the dates mentioned may not fly for reasons of scheduling with other campaigns but it is certainly worth putting info, kits & other "stuff" together.

Two excellent references from Wydawnictwo MILITARIA in Poland may be helpful. The first is #277 Polska 1939 Vol. 1. If Vol 2 is out I haven't seen it. This book is excellent for showing the various vehicles used in the Polish fight in 1939. I found out here that the old WW1 Renault FT was used, another possible build for us here.

The second is #400 7TP. This is the best reference I have seen on this tank. Both #277 & #400 have Polish/English text.

Another good booklet is in the Duel series and deals with the 7TP vs the Panzer II. I do not have this one handy at the moment to get the exact title but it is easy to find from the usual sources.

I'm sure there are others, anybody have any suggestions?

Hi folks,
I'd like to join in as well. I'm already signed up for 2 campaigns for late 2016-early 2017 but I am really interested in this time period. Wanted a simple build to give me a chance of finishing. Went through my stash and found nothing so off to evil-bay. Lucked up on a 1/400 scale swimmy thing kit of the ORP Mazur Gunnery Training Ship which was sunk on the first day of the war. Looks like an interesting little kit. I'm generally just an OOB builder but we'll see.
Thanks
John

Also, IIRC, the Polish army had 50 French R-35 light tanks in service in a unit in the south of the country. Some survivors were sent to either Romania or Hungary after Poland fell.

I'm glad to hear you have a ship in mind. I look forward to seeing how it comes along.

Thanks for noting that the R-35s were involved in the battle for Poland. Hobby Boss has a very nice looking kit of it out and Fruil makes a set of tracks for it. Do you know how they were painted and marked in Polish service?
