Hello,

While looking for some pictures for an upcoming build (Tamiya Leopard 2A5 w/ the Accurate Armor conversion), I found this picture.
Hope the link will work:
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/HJNxj7niee8/maxresdefault.jpg

I assume it's a danish Leo2 given the flag on the turret side and a few other details (no MG, TC sight,...)

But I am confused by the color scheme.
Is it a washable layer on top of the green/black camo?
I thought it was mud, but it cannot be that consistent all over the hull and turret.

Besides, what's protruding between the gun barrel and the catridge ejector (name/role?)? Looks like a MG barrel.

And finally, the devices at the bottom of the hull back plate are heat dissipators?

Thanks a lot!

Its the leftover of dessert color scheme some of the leopards had under the Barracuda thermal cover when it was deployed in Helmand Afghanistan.

The box on the hull back plate is an air hose connected to compressor, mainly for maintenance in the dessert (dust)

The “MG barrel” functions as a cooling tube for the co-axial GPMG

Looking forward to see your model coming alive.

Ahh, that's my favorite Leopard II picture.
If I ever get around to build one, I too am going to do this kitty 🐱
Good luck with your build, I'm definitely going to follow it.

Thank you for your input.

The desert scheme would be a 2 tone scheme?
A tan/buff and a brown/mud/dark earth/mid stone combo?

Hi!
Here is another nice building blog of this vehicle in scale 1/16 with several pictures of the real vehicles...

http://www.battletanksnederland.nl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2297&start=0

and some more
http://planetarmor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3540

Plus you can go to Leopardclub.ca and look under Leopardfibel for a download of Stefan Zaeskes brillant conversion of this vehicle which also shows plenty of pictures from original together with information on equipment and camouflage colours. Absolutely woth the money!

Hello again,

Would anybody know what this device is called?
See image here: http://leopardclub.ca/Spotlight/Denmark/2A5DK-3/images/133.jpg
It's frequently seen on the Leopard 2A5DK, but I think I saw it on a US Army M1A2 too.
I assume it's a blank firing device, like the Hoffman one, but can't find anything about it.
i tried Google image search, different words combination...

Thanks!
