Hi Mike
Maybe it's too late for your project, but I've just came some detail pics of a M1075A1 and a M1120A4 on Flickr (mostly chassis & interior views) that may be new to you :

Great pics, thanks. I am still waiting to paint this one. Weekends have been busy and with the early sunset, I don't have the right light to do it in the evenings. Hopefully I will get to it (and the M983A1) soon. I am also waiting to get all the ammo sets in to fill up the flatrack. I have built a few wooden pallets for the propellant and fuze cans. I found some laser-cut wooden pallets that were very cheap on eBay by Shadow Hobby. They look great and were easy to build.

USMC PLS trucks in action (and more...) :

I know the featured trucks are not M1074's (they're LVSR's) but I guess the PLS bits would be worth a look

I usually make mine from thin basswood but these look nice and will make life easier. Projo pallets I made a template for the indents and use bass and balsa wood to make the initial pallet.

Thanks Frenchy and Mike. The pallets were very easy. I was going to use basswood too, but these were easier.

Great drawing. No real update to this yet. With Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations, end of semester for my class (administering final exams), etc... modeling time has become limited. I have been piddling with the rounds and ammo load. Boy it is a bunch of rounds to prep and setup for the flatrack. Pushing on...

Hi,

Great work so far, it has been very inspiring to follow your progress on your M1075 project. In these days with conversion kits on every corner, it is good to see some good old fashioned modelling being done.
What is the current status on your project?

Regards Thomas

Thanks Thomas. It has been a fun project. Unfortunately, it is on hold at the moment as I am selling my house. Hopefully it will sell soon and I can drag out the models again.

Ok, I hope, you will have luck selling the house soon. I follow your various HEMTT projects with great interest. I have a M977 project on hold for the moment. Since the new Trumpeter M983 appeared, it has become the new "Gold Standard" of 1/35 HEMTT kits, so my intention is to mate the two kits in to one.

Yup, the Trumpeter HEMTT is definitely now the best on the market; it is awesome. Hopefully they will release their M1120A2 soon. A modern A4 version HEMTT or an armored one would be awesome too. Fingers crossed.

Well, I have seen here, Trumpeter allegedly will release the M1120?

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/251985&page=1

- and then the M1074/1075 would be nice too :-)

as would the A2/A4 based variants. I am however not aware, what the differences are between for instance the M983 and the M983A4, apart from the obvious air intakes on the side of the engine area.

The Trumpeter M983 is actually an A2 model, as are all the Italeri HEMTT kits.

The A4 HEMTT models have the longer cab of the PLS, redesigned engine surround area, two external radiators, PLS air cleaner box, air ride suspension, redesigned dash and inner cab details, etc., etc. It is really a totally different vehicle.

OK, so turning even the Trumpeter kit into an -A4 version is a major undertaking, I can see. But possible, if Trumpeter would want to do it?

Another thing, I have been unable to verify, is the external difference between the M977 and the M985, and also the difference between the crane on these two vehicles. I am aware the M985 has a higher gross weight than the M977, but how do you tell the difference between these two vehicles?

The only way to tell a M977 from M985 is the crane hook. M977 has simple hook thats attached directly to the cable. M985 hook is attached a roll, similar to the hook of the M88.

Ok, thank you, that is a very little difference. I bought the Pro Art Models PAU-35005 M977 crane some years ago. They also had the M985 crane at that time. They might as well have included both hooks.

Sorry H but that comment about the hook probably won't work to identify the two vehicles. That secondary snatch block (hook with pulley) is most likely an accessory item that the operator can fairly easily pull out of a storage box somewhere on the vehicle and rig into the crane when the load demands.

I did notice that the PLS utilizes a heavier duty Groves crane with a four section boom rather than the regular three section. Also the Patriot missile service vehicle uses a double knuckle crane to allow more clearance around that longer missile case.

Gino can you offer any more info here?

The M985 HEMTT MLRS Ammo Carrier crane is a more heavy duty design and the snatch block with pulley is integral to the design to give it the extra capacity.

It also has attachment points to allow the MLRS rocket pod feet to lock into place and tie-down loops for the straps to secure them to included in the bed floor.

Depicted below on a 1:50 die-cast model.

My appologies if I got that wrong about the HD crane.

I do feel as though I have seen the lighter crane using the two line snatch block as well but I certainly could be mistaken.
