This is what you get when you add the upper hull. This isn't the kit's fault, it's depicting the vehicle.



(A) only lets you see a sliver of the top of the engine. If you wanted to show it off you'd have to remove the cover plate. If they molded the plate separate it would take care of it. That would be removed for maintenance or display.
(B) actually shows alot, but this hatch also serves as the mount for the radiator. You probably wouldn't see that open except during maintenance..or for display
(C) is the rear hatch. It's a small hatch, measuring under a meter squared. The rear compartment is about a meter high. If you open the rear, it's going to be dark, limiting what you see. Myself, I think this would be a neat place to depict the crew using to sleep and stow gear.
(D) this one works well. All you can see is a crude driver's seat. The opening is small enough that a driver figure blocks any view inside.

I applaud Trumpy for including the interior bits. It's a great start if you want to go bonkers on an interior or enough to hint at what lies beneath. For my simple build, it's wasted. This time next year this might be re-purposed to mount a surface-to-air missile launcher.

When I see the 105mm I tend to get a flash back to the videos on Iwo Jima and the crew firing the 105 on the beach. The one loader handles the 105 shells like they were twigs.

The tracks have been cut by one link as they were too loose. In fact, two links cut would be better but this makes the tracks bend inward around the sprockets. Unfortunately I don't know of replacement tracks.

Looking good, the paint is well done. Those tracks remind me of the "old" days when we used to pin the tracks down, or use thread. On the Italeri Sherman tracks, the tracks were so stiff the pins would bend up.

Some progress. Even though the gun is going to be towed I wanted to show off the massive breach. For some reason the fit of the parts was poor. I've seen the kit built up and either they had a better kit, or know a secret I don't! The muzzle will be covered with a tarp.

I assembled the trails before adding any fittings, then had to put the build on hold. I have some dry wall to put up, and junk to get rid of. Should be back building in a couple of days.

This kit goes together quickly, though I wish there were a little more detail in the ammo limber, with the two possible racks out it is easy to see into the gaping emptiness.
Doesn't need the extreme complexity of the Bronco limber, but more is certainly possible.

Hey All!

Some amazing work posted on this thread and to coin a phrase "I'm not worthy". But anyways, this is my first campaign and my some of my first on-line work.

This is a build of the Trumpeter 1/35 M198 155mm (Late Version).



I'm really a newbie so this will be the first work I've done in years (I haven't actually finished anything in forever).

Careful viewers of the above picture will notice I actually purchased TWO M198 kits because I figured I'd ruin the first one.

Here is where I'm at after today's session (you may note I lost part B-15 to the 'concrete monster' and replaced it with some plastruct rod).



I actually pulled out parts of the "backup kit" and decided that I'm not doing too bad and will keep going without replacing anything (my original idea was to build one kit now and another in a year so I can see the difference - then burn the original kit )

I'm now hunting for some old pens to steal the springs to replace part C9 (I've got more than enough shrink wrap).

Anyways I hoped this worked and will post more tomorrow.

Good luck with your build. I know what you mean by not finishing anything. The last model I put paint on was 11 years ago.

I can't let anything go missing. I have a 15 month old visitor named Elli that can find a gnats wing if it hits the floor. If I drop anything I don't rest until I find it. So far I have been very lucky.
