Jerry have you tried contacting the Facebook group, WWII Normandy Then and Now ?

They might have photos.

Hi Jerry

If you mean the northeastern end of the 3km-long "Couloir de la Mort", here are some period pics of Saint Lambert sur Dive that may fit the bill...

Thanks guys for the good info.
Frenchy sorry I gave the wrong question when I first asked about it. I am actually looking for pics of the way the area around the Porte Des Cordeliers looked in WWII. This is the gate at the northwestern area. There was a PAK emplaced there around where the bridge over the Antes River is to cover the main road from Caen. I am looking for the logical place that it would have been to cover the road ?
Thanks for your trouble my friend,
J

No problemo Jerry. I had the feeling I was probably off the mark

Here are a few views of the "Porte des Cordeliers" :

From the other side :

I believe the tower could be the one that can be seen in the picture below (on the right) :

Wow ! Those are excellent pics. It was such a beautiful middle ages city before the bombing and artillery. My books say it was about 80 or 90% destroyed by the Allies before the ground fighting even started !
Papa Kraus and his kampfgruppe of maybe 200 men defended it quite ferociously with the only heavy weapons they had being two 75mm Pak. One at the northwest gate and one at the southeast gate. Panzerfausts were also available.
Good thing for our side there where not too many HJ left at this point !
I don't suppose you can find any pics like these of the bridge over the Antes at this gate?
I wonder how new this last pic you posted is? That looks like the gate but the road from Caen looks like a major urban renewal has taken place ? Like the major roads around Caen ? Re-directed and straightened ?

Here's the website it comes from :

http://remparts-de-normandie.eklablog.com/les-remparts-de-falaise-calvados-a126102038

The caption says it was taken during the rebuild of Falaise.

Unfortunately I haven't found any bridge period picture...

Well,it isn't helping me for my build research but it was a really good source of cool info about one of my other passions,IE middle age buildings and fortifications. Nice web site man,a big thank you !
Looks to me like the old stone bridge has disappeared and a sloping large causeway has replaced it and straightened out the road as well. Piercing the old city wall to the north of the original gate.

Going from Seans' excellent pic showing the actual gun still in place,it looks to me like it was placed right above the bridge on the left side of the road, across from where that smaller road enters from the right ?
